Help needed - I am so stupid!! GTT today

Hi!

I am supposed to have been fasting since midnight last night for my GTT today. I woke up at 6am with terrible heartburn so took a swig of gaviscon half asleep, before I realised what I was doing.

I made myself sick within half an hour to try to stop any effects, but have I messed up the test? Will I need to tell the doctor / nurse?

Help!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I would tell them but i doubt one swig is going to make a huge difference!

the worst that will happen is they will postpone your gtt to another day

I doubt it will make a difference. Just tell them you had gaviscon. I had to have water to take my medication, you can't 'fast' your meds!

Also, is it the standard 1st test they give everyone or a more detailed one? The reason is before mine, I didn't have to fast for the 'baseline' test which they do for everyone. Yes, I checked (and on here everyone was saying "you always have to fast!") and it's a major teaching hospital which knows what it is doing. So even if they cannot do the full test they may be able to do a basic lucozade test anyway.

They didn't flinch. It wasn't on the "do not take" letter specifically, so they've taken the blood anyway, given me the glucose drink and I'm still waiting for my 2 hours to finish.
Thanks everyone, I had such a panic this morning!!!

Squizita- that is for a standard glucose test which can be done fasted or not. The op is having a Glucose Tolerance test which is different and MUST be started fasting. Others have had a 'mini Glucose tolerlance test' which again is a different test- for which they fast then load with predetermined quantity of glucose and the body's response to that tested. They are completely different tests- but I doubt a swig of gaviscon is likely to affect any of them
