Hi everyone, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and cannot believe how sick I feel. It starts from the moment I wake until I fall asleep with no let up. I've tried lots of things but nothing seems to help and I'm only able to manage to eat a very few things. It's so bad it's causing me problems with work too. I don't expect a miracle cure but it would be great to hear any top tips or even that I'm not alone on this! Thanks a million x

Pretty much the same here! I'm nearly 7 weeks and the past week has been like that, I feel sick when I wake up, it subsides a bit then comes back about 11 and then stays til I go to bed. It's rubbish. Salt and vinegar crisps help! Hope it lifts soon x

I bought those travel sickness wristbands and they really worked for me. I'm 11 weeks and feel a lot better now x

icklekid · 07/07/2014 05:23

Honestly go see your gp- anti sickness medication (still taking at 40 weeks) allowed me to work throughout my pregnancy. I was very unwell from 6 weeks and even on medication was sick every night. With out it I would have been signed off but ended up working until 37 weeks. ..

MrsCK · 07/07/2014 07:23

I'm the same at 10 weeks. sick 4 times yesterday and have called in sick today. I feel like a fraud because I think there's an expectation that pregnant women are sick and they need to deal with it! Please reassure me...

Sorry you're going through this. The hyperemesis support thread has a lot of lovely people offering advice and support. I think if you're throwing up more than 3x per day on successive days you should definitely see your GP because that's more than normal pregnancy sickness and the earlier you get help the better. Other alarm bells are being unable to keep water down or significant
weight loss.

GeekyHybrid · 07/07/2014 08:31

Hi Jess, the sickness bands help, then the usual eat little and often keeping your fluids up. I spent 3 weeks not functioning - luckily it has eased off in the last week (now 9w) but I'd go to the GP if it continues for too long. MrsCK - I'd definitely get myself to the GP, I think any throwing up and they'll give you 'safe' anti-nausea meds. Fingers crossed it passes before too long for you all.

Helenhelen001 · 07/07/2014 09:44

Thanks everyone, will definitely try some of those things and it's good knowing I'm not alone but I hope you all start feeling better soon...I guess it's a small price to pay for the end result hey? x

Ice cold water, high protein snacks (greek yoghurt with fruit is great for me right now), and medication.

Seriously, if you're struggling don't hesitate talking to your GP. My nausea hits me at night and was keeping me awake and affecting my working life. I thought my GP wouldn't prescribe me anything because I wasn't actually throwing up, but they're usually content to help where they can. I started on a low strength anti-emetic, progressing to something a little stronger and it's helped me a lot.

hotfuzzra · 07/07/2014 12:38

Ginger nuts helped relieve my all day nausea. Somedays I felt so sick I didn't want to eat anything, which resulted in me feeling sick through hunger. If you find any food you do enjoy stock up on it. Baby will get what it needs. Good luck

kalidasa · 07/07/2014 12:43

Definitely see the GP and visit the HG thread. Don't want to scare you, but assuming your dates are right - you're only missing your period now? - you are v early to be cripplingly nauseous and early onset like that is a risk factor for HG. The hormones rise steadily up until the 8-12 week period so being v ill at 4 weeks (when the hormones still have a month or more of rising ahead) is more of a concern than if you felt like this at 8 or 10 weeks.

FloweryBoots · 07/07/2014 14:26

The laddies on the Hypermesis support thread are lovely. I'm horribly nauseaus none stop all day but I'm not actually that sick, once a day at most and sometimes not that, so I felt a bit of a fraud when many of them are so much worse, but it's been very helpful.

Ice lollies help me get liquids in as I struggle to drink. Grapes from the fridge are good. Stewed apple cold from the fridge also managable. Crisps were good at first but I think I ate them when feeling sick so much I can't face them now.

My nausea started at just before 4 weeks, by 4 1/2 it was all day fairly constant. I'm 6+5 now and just made an appointment with the doctor for tomorrow. The constant nausea is horrible, you have my every sympathy. It is utterly draining and depressing and so awful when you just cant face the thought of food despite knowing eating something might make you feel a bit better, if only for a few minutes. Urgh.

Saraswati · 07/07/2014 14:33

I agree with the others - get to the doctors! I was very sick from 5 weeks, got medication at 7 weeks when I was throwing up 5+ times a day. Even on the meds I was sick once a day but the nausea wasn't so constant so it made going to work much easier. I'm now 15 weeks and am weaning myself off the meds, I'm still sick most days but generally feel lots better and I hope it will improve.

I lived off tuc biscuits and rich tea biscuits and the high juice lemon squash thats nice and sour. I'm just starting to eat normal food again now.

Babytinx11 · 07/07/2014 17:42

Sounds a bit like me at the moment I'm 5 weeks and I swear I have actually turned green I am so sicky and nauseous I got some peppermint tea today as it seemed to help a bit when I had the other day but like everyone has said don't hesitate to go and see your gp about it there really isn't any need to struggle with it

kitkatkaty87 · 07/07/2014 19:48

I'm 8 weeks today and have had all day nausea for about 2 weeks now. I'm sick roughly every day or every other day. For me it's smells that set me off even thinking about certain smells!
I have found that sucking on hard sweets can ward off the nausea for a few minutes so try that if you get desperate. I had fruit polo's. I have tried other things and it hasn't worked so I am still trying to think of things too. You have my sympathy.
