Sorry about this but my knickers are damp but I can't work out if its just sweat or broken waters? Would you automatically know the difference?

Apparently waters have a sweet smell?

AntoinetteCosway · 06/07/2014 19:09

When my waters went there was an audible popping sound and then an enormous flood-it was unmistakeable. I think they can also leak slowly though. If in doubt call the labour ward and they'll check for you. Put a maternity pad on!

GobblersKnob · 06/07/2014 19:11

Pop a pad in your undercrackers, make a cup of tea and watch a bit of tv.

If the pad becomes damp in a central kind of location, it's your waters.

If not you probably just have sweaty feathers Grin

Lie down for half an hour with a pad and then stand up and see if more comes out when you stand up might be your waters.

squizita · 06/07/2014 19:59

I was scared about this and used a pad. I noticed that what was on the pad was obviously just normal mucus, but tmi there was damp on my knickers under dry parts of the pad next to my thighs... i.e. it was my enormous sweaty thighs!

So do try the pad test- a value pad with no special layers works best.

My waters trickled and it was a definite trickle (wetting through a pad in an hour or so) rather than dampness.

MrsBungle · 06/07/2014 20:05

As others have suggested, put a pad on. My waters were going without me noticing. I thought I was peeing myself! They didn't smell sweet or like semen as was suggested to me. I only realised something was wrong when it changed colour and it turned out to be meconium. Mine didn't gush at all, small trickles I could barely feel. Lying down with a pad on then getting up seems good advice or call your midwife for advice.

Just done the pad test and nothing there. Think my brain is playing tricks on me. 39+6 and want this baby out now.
