Heartbeat at 5/6 weeks, is this a bad sign?

Ok, so now I'm panicking Sad

I commented on another thread before, re the fact my baby's heartbeat was seen and heard @ 5+5, however that baby stopped growing past 8 weeks (my first MC) Sad

I had a further MC, but am now pregnant. I had a scan at 5+4 (I'm now 6+5), as I'd wiped brown (sorry!) and after a while of searching, the Sonographer found the little beating heart Smile however, on this other thread I mentioned, another poster has replied by saying only healthy pregnancies are the ones where the heartbeat can't be seen/heard so early on Sad So, as I'm already shitting it day by day, waiting for the inevitable Sad I'm now even more stressed out and wondered if this posters comments were statistically fact or something? Sad Sad

Never heard that. Ds was beating away merrily at 6+1 and he made it.

kimlo · 06/07/2014 11:26

If it was fact would they ot have warned you that it wasnt a good sign and asked you to go back in 2 weeks time to rescan and see what was happening?

Ive never heard it was a bad sign. I have been told by a doctor that once a heartbeat has been seen the risk of miscarriage drops by quiet a bit.

DikTrom · 06/07/2014 11:29

A heart beat can be found from 5 weeks onwards according to www.newhealthguide.org under heading 'when does a baby have a heart beat?'

Good luck with your pregnancy and try not to worry.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 06/07/2014 11:31

That's absurd! How can seeing a heartbeat so early be a bad sign and a sign that the pregnancy will be lost? It's not even logical!

Wishing you well with this pregnancy.

ScouseBird8364 · 06/07/2014 11:34

Oh thank you guys, I suffer with bad Anxiety so do worry like crazy Sad I didn't know that, that once a heartbeat is seen the risk of MC is lower?

I just wish I could stop this worry Sad

Never heard that before, try to forget that comment x

I quickly googled it and it seems that the risk of miscarriage drops to about 4% in the first trimester after a heartbeat has been detected.

Happilymarried155 · 06/07/2014 11:51

That's not true at all! The fact you have seen a heartbeat is great sign.

Congratulations x

nyldn · 06/07/2014 11:51

That's not what she said. she said it could be 7/8 weeks before a heartbeat could be found in a healthy pregnancy. the op on the other thread was worried that a heartbeat hain't been seen yet and people were trying to tell her that it was possibly just too early to see it.

squizita · 06/07/2014 17:20

Hi Scouse

TBH this wasn't what I said at all.
In all honesty, the irony is my reply at nyldn said was to reassure someone, after you posted something which may have worried them (you used the word 'incorrect' when someone said it was OK not to see a HB very early). Here is the thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2119674-help?

I said that it is not a problem if you don't see a HB until 6-7 weeks, NOT that it was a problem if it was seen before that.

Someone else had told a poster not to worry if they didn't see a HB at 5 weeks or something.
You then posted using the word "incorrect" because you had seen a HB with yours at 5 weeks. Can you see how this could have worried the OP? That is why I pointed out that it was pretty normal not to see anything at 5 weeks.
At no point was it ever suggested in the slightest that seeing a HB before that was a problem.
