Hi I am in Germany and I have had a scan however I see two sacs and they measured the more obvious one and on my picture named it twin A. I am very confused as I am unsure if this means I am having twins???

It looks like 1 to me but that's why I work in an office I think!! Good luck

Harri86harri · 04/07/2014 18:24

It's the top left corner I'm looking at that makes me think two

my dating scan showed 2, went back the next week to check and there was no sign of number2. Had no bleed at all, so they thought it might have been the same sac from a different angle. When i delivered the after birth there was a small b- placenta. All v odd!

arghhelpme · 04/07/2014 21:15

How far are you? I'm carrying twins, each scan pic I have has either twin 1 or twin 2 in the top left hand corner.

arghhelpme · 04/07/2014 21:16

Forgot congrats! Smile

hi i am a sonographer, the image you have uploaded shows one gestation sac (the dark circle), containing what appears to be a single embryo (measured) and the area immediately next to this is the normal yolk sac that you would also get with just one baby (it is the rudimentary placenta so to speak), so just by this image it would appear to only be one baby present (I would have thought twins would have been explained to you!!), the writing at the bottom that says 'twin a' may just be a generic preset that is used on the machine?? Sorry if not being very clear but from this image it would appear only one, although not having performed the scan I could not be certain. Did they give you any more images, i.e. another that said twin b?? Congratulations btw!

No i suffered a miscarriage so as soon as I had a positive pregnancy test they are scanning me to make sure that implantation was a success. No they don't discuss anything all they said was carnt tell me if everything will be ok as too early .. It's a language barrier the midwife tells you at 12 weeks. I have had two scans both with two circles in them, my friend was the person that pointed it out as she went to same place and it didn't say twin a on hers ..Maslow my hubby being a twin and grandad and brothers all twins which has made me think otherwise

Hi- sorry i didn't read your previous comment properly about what you could see in the top left corner of the image- I am assuming that you mean the small white circle to the left of the embryo (measured area). Very difficult to tell from a still image, it could just simply be a reflection off the edge of the gestation sac. If there is any confusion have they booked you in for a scan before you are 12 weeks (I would normally expect to bring someone back for a scan about 8 weeks if so??)
The reason they can't tell you whether everything is going to be OK is because that is exactly the same for anyone in pregnancy, particularly early pregnancy- usually there is no reason to believe there will be a problem but they are probably just being cautious.
It is very difficult with the language barrier as well- do you have anyone who can interpret for you?
The twins that run in families tend to be fraternal twins- usually you would see two black round sacs, so would look different to this ultrasound image.
Sorry to not be much more help, but didn't want to leave your message unanswered. Good luck.

Hi yes I'm due back in a week and a half , they scan very often over here, the midwifes are English but they don't get involved until 12 weeks I believe as I'm still waiting on a call back to arrange a appointment , thank you for the answer I will just have to wait and see what they say when I see the midwife :)
