But people talk about "forewaters" and "hindwaters." What does this mean? Surely the baby is just in one big sac of fluid, not segments?!

Yep it's one bag however, when baby drops into pelvis it forms like a plug. So some water infront of it's head, forewaters and the rest behind is hind waters.

Ahhhh ok. And I'm assuming then the forwaters (meaning in front?) would be a lesser amount than the hindwaters (meaning behind baby's head?)

I would presume so. The forewaters are abit like blood, alittle goes along way

Yes, forewaters can be just a little bit. It does go a long way though!

Not everyone gets this though. I have had three labours. First, my waters were broken for me so one big gush. Second they went in the pool and it seemed to be all of it. Third, no one knows! Must have gone in the pool because they were intact before and he wasn't born in the caul, so they probably went at the peak of a contraction and no one noticed.
