Has anyone experienced morning sickness coming back in late pregnancy?

Been feeling really sick (nausea rather than vomiting) and absolutely shattered again for the past couple of days. Completely lost my appetite, and the hound-dog nose has returned with vengence in mind. The merest whiff of a cigarette and I'm retching. Garlic, too, is a big problem and I've gone off perfume again. It feels like the return of morning sickness. I'm now 34 weeks gone. Anyone else felt like this? It didn't happen with ds's pregnancy.
Also, does anyone else's bump attract knocks and bumps quite as efficiently as mine does now? ds (17m) is always trying to sit on it. My 3 cats make a bee-line for it, scratch marks evident! And lately I don't seem to be able to negotiate doors without bumping into the doorframe or handle. Even caught it with the iron the other day. My skin is looking like a war zone. Goodness knows what the midwife thinks!!

have you had your iron checked recently (i mean the stuff in your blood, not the bruise on your bump!) i started feeling gross again when i should have been, as they say, 'blooming', and i turned out to be anaemic even though i'd been eating all the right foods.

and if you do turn out to need iron, don't take the ferrous sulphate that our lovely NHS provide - it makes you constipated. get 'gentle iron' or 'iron bisglycinate' (i think that's how it's spelled) from a health food shop - it's worth the extra cost.

I found with my dd that my morning sickness would disappear for a couple of weeks and then return again. I had it from the first few days after conception to 26 weeks gone with the odd welcome break here and there.

honeybunny - just to say we see a fair no. of ladies who report exactly the same as you!! Not really sure why this should be - the majority of women bid farewell to nausea around 12 - 15 weeks, others never seem to shake it off, and those like yourself get it all over again! Anyway - its normal!

I had the exact same thing happen to me in my 1st pregnancy. it only seemed to go about a week before the birth! Sorry about that bit of news but you may be different!! Not much longer to go now though for you thankfully eh.

wmf- yes haemoglobin count was a little low at last check, and yes the lovely NHS prescribed ferrous sulphate. I've gone for the Solgar Prenatal supplement which has the 100%RDA in it, so hope thats helping. Thinking I might now have a bug, as dh has had d+nausea today, aswell as ds earlier in the week. Have since resumed obsessive hand washing and other OTT hygiene things to combat any re-infection, so hope I start to feel better soon. Still feels like morning sickness to me though.
Thanks for reassurance leese, if it is just hormonal, at least I know I'm not alone!

A really good iron tonic is Floradix. My iron levels refused to go up even with ferrous sulphate and a midwife recommended Floradix. It worked within a month, boosting my levels so I could have the birth I wanted.

You can get it from health food shops and some chemists or they can order it for you. Unfortunately, it isn't cheap, about £7 or £8, but it does seem to produce results and I only needed one bottle.

I would definitely second SueDonim's Floradix recommendation - I think it should be in every hospital bag! My Hg levels were fine in pregnancy but plummetted after my C-section, and I too found my prescribed ferrous sulphate had no positive effect. I won't go into the negative effects here...
Floradix is worth every penny for anyone with low iron levels.

Another vote for Floradix - I loved the taste of it too!

SueDonim · 21/03/2002 15:14

I hated the taste, Enid - but I reckoned something that bad just had to be doing me some good, lol!

not entirely relevant i know, but this is just a play for pity - i've got morning sickness and it's still too early to even confirm that i'm pregnant!

I am in a similiar situation at 33 weeks, my night and day sickness having never gone away. Nowhere near as bad as it was but still enough for my ketones to be present at every check up. The only advice I ever get is to rest, eat properly....great when you have a 2 1/2 year old and working 4 days a week.

I live on bland food, mashed potato etc, carbohydrate rich food makes me feel better, avoid fizzy drinks but drink glucose sports drinks and get lots of sleep. I find tiredness makes it worse so I go to bed with DS at 8pm every night. DH also sleeps in the spare room as I am a very light sleeper, his snoring annoys me and the bed gets too hot.

I use an iron supplement called 'SPATONE' which is basically sachets of iron rich mineral water. It is supposed to be gentle on the stomach but I can only manage to keep it down sometime. Its available in Boots but not on pescription.

I have also recommended in a previous post a tape called Morningwell (Morningwell.org.uk...I think) which helps morning sickness, helped me a lot in the early days.

wmf - I had morning sickness before my period was due too! 13 wks now and its lifting slightly...

wmf · 07/04/2002 21:28

eve - have you tried black pepper? i know it sounds weird, but i found last time that bland foods spiced up a bit with a 'warm' spice (pepper or ginger, for example) helped a lot. and you know what is said about the foods you eat during pregnancy affecting your child's tastes? well at 14months i found ds dipping his fingers into gound pepper and licking them!

last time i also lost weight until the worst of the sickness was over at about 12 weeks - it lasted well into the 30's - but this time, knowing that eating eases it a bit, i'm worried that i'll turn into a beached whale!
