Silly question but when should this be? My GP surgery just tried to book for 11 wks, I though that was a bit late?! She was really shorty with me when I said I'd prefer to come in earlier Confused

Mine was done at 8 weeks with this pregnancy (dc2) and 10 weeks with ds1 (we've moved in between pregnancies so different trusts).

11 weeks does seem a bit late but every trust is different. If they can book it earlier then great but all they do is make up your notes, so lots of questions! No antenatal checks are done, apart from a blood test.

Mine was about then and I had my scan 5 days later. As long as your 12 week scan is booked it should be fine. They take lots of info from you and then take bloods, unless you have a problem they don't need to see you early. I was a little surprised that appointments are so spread out in the first two trimesters (the gap between 16 week and 25 weeks seems huge to go without a midwife appt!) but realised that as I am healthy and problem free and baby is then you don't need to be seen and in the end that is a positive! Even now at 33 weeks my appointments are short 15 minute chats, listen to the heartbeat and that's it. A bit more stuff like bump measuring and more bloods, but nothing more involved then that.

I think all areas are different from what I can work out. Mine was at 7 weeks, scan at 12 weeks, next mw apt at 16 weeks.

Mine was at 8 weeks, which was the day after I called them. I wasn't even registered at the GP so I was referred to the mw directly not via the GP- not sure if that makes a difference. The booking appointment took about an hour, they take blood, measure your bmi and bp, fill in your hand held notes and ask LOADS of questions. They also gave me some vitamins ans info on safe eating etc. It's really exciting because it all becomes really real!

Mine was at 13w3, they were full before then! Didn't matter though, I booked my scan at the same time I booked my booking in so knew I'd get it just before the cut-off.

I saw GP when I was 7weeks, had booking appointment with MW at 11 weeks and scan done at 13 weeks. I think it all depends on when you first go to your GP to get refered to a MW and what area you are in. I know where I am, its scan at 13 and 20 weeks and nothing after that unless you have problems, but I have some friends who live in different counties who have had a scan in each trimester

Thanks, the mw makes the scan appt at the booking appt which is why I'm fretting, they did this last time and my scan was at a different hospital and at 14 wks because they couldn't get me in Hmm this time there is only 1 day my dh can have off or I'm going alone, the mw is calling me back

My booking app is being done at almost 16 weeks!! But the m/w spoke to me on the phone and sent the scan referral through so thats being done Thurs at 13 weeks. Pretty glad of the lack of appointments in a lot of ways but it might be different if i was a FTM! I think it depends how busy they are.

Beesandbutterflies · 01/07/2014 16:33

I'm not bothered in the slightest by having appointments I just want a scan date, maybe I'll just ask for a scan appt on the day I need thanks for the replies Ladies SmileSmileSmile

8 weeks because it was the first appointment available that suited me (about a week after I phoned)

If the midwife has to make the scan appointment then 11 weeks sounds too late for a booking in appointment. But even if the midwife usually makes the appointment, the GP should be able to request a scan appointment separately in circumstances like this surely - that's what happened for me a few weeks ago, I had my scan before my booking in appt because the midwife was fully booked in the weeks before.
