Regular contractions but not feeling anything - is this normal?

I should be seeing midwife today so will ask them of course but in meantime throwing it out to mumsnet...

I was hooked up to CTG monitoring on Friday (at 36 weeks) and despite the fact I couldn't feel anything I was clearly having regular contractions every 3-4 minutes like clockwork.

Midwife was a bit concerned but doctor said nothing to worry about if I can't feel anything and let me go.

I've not had any real contraction like symptoms - a bit of tightening but I just thought that was regular Braxton Hicks.

Anyone else experienced similar? Does it mean anything?

This is quite common. They aren't contractions, but normal uterine activity.

Thanks - I'm guess from your name you've got a professional interest?

The midwife wrote 'contractions: 2-3 in 10' on my notes and the trace does look really like contractions.

Hope it is just normal as really not ready for this to be a sign that things might be starting to stir!

I had contractions from about 26 weeks with no. 2, which became active contractions around 33 weeks after a serious bout of norovirus which sent the baby into distress - thankfully a hospital dash and lots of drugs stopped them and baby continued to grow well but the contractions never let up.

I was contracting roughly every 4-5 minutes from about 35 weeks, DS arrived at 38+2 but thankfully they weren't that painful, more just a little breathtaking. Made work plenty interesting that's for sure.

Enjoy your last few weeks before baby arrives, hopefully he/she stays in a little longer!

Yes I do have a 'professional interest'... As part of the ctg interpretation you would write contractions 1:10/2-3:10 etc but it's sometimes helpful to write a bit more like, not felt by mum, etc. they do look like contractions on the print out though

36 weeks (measuring 39) with BH and period pains. Child number 3 and desperate for baby to arrive. Pressure in my pelvis like my waters are about to pop and willing it to happen everytime.
This phase is like trying to concieve, when your desperate to see the pregnancy line every month. Now your desperate to see your little bundle.
