Itchy feet. Help!

I'm 36 weeks and have been suffering with really bad swollen feet and ankles, we're talking elephant like here! Yesterday for the first time I did absolutely nothing but put my feet up all day and the swelling has now pretty much gone down to normal. I can see my ankles again! Yay!

But, my feet are insanely itchy. It kept me up (among other things) all night, and DP as he had to listen to my scratch scratch scratch all night. Plus it's bloody hard to reach my feet at the mo so uncomfortable all round.

Had anyone had this? I'm assuming it's because my skin has been so stretched? Is there anything I a can do, or put on them to stop it? Help!

Itching in pregnancy can be a sign of a liver problem - obstetric cholestasis, particularly on hands and feet.
I would suggest calling the maternity unit and asking for advice. They may suggest you come in for blood tests

Oh, it didn't occur to me that it would be anything serious. Just thought it was because of stretched skin.

I have a midwife appt on Tuesday, should I wait or call sooner?

I wouldn't wait I'd call sooner and prepare to have to go in for blood tests.

I agree phone the maternity unit and they might want to have a look at you
(Not just to point and laugh honest Wink)

Also, I would seriously consider getting yourself a couple of pairs of extremely unflattering, unattractive toe to thigh flight socks. It'll probably be a bugger to put them on but get your OH to help and it will help the swelling remain manageable. The itching could be because of the oedema, make sure you are moisturising you legs and feet twice daily (again probably easier said than done) and rather than itch, try to rub more cream in instead to quench that itching feeling without actual itching. Obviously a call to the midwife would be wise as mentioned above, just In case. X
