Can I take Piriton? (Fiberglass reaction)

My ceiling just fell down and I have been up to my elbows in fibreglass and lime plaster which is now lime dust, neither of which are nice products.

Now I'm itchy, nose and eyes are streaming, coughing, wheezing, ugh! Like a rotten stinky winter cold.

Can I take Piriton and am I right to be concerned that my breathing is not happy after breathing in a load of fibreglass and lime dust?? Hmm

I don't know what thread is re taking antihistamines during pregnancy these days - I never took them whilst I was pregnant 7 yrs ago!
But, given what you've said I would call nhs direct to see what they say cos you need something! I would defo get advice

Stupid phone - don't know what the advice is re taking ...!!

Advice is to not take any antihistamines when pregnant... But might be worth asking pharmacist if there are any on the market that are safe to take....

I was given Piriton by my consultant for pregnancy itching but told in a different pregnancy I couldn't take it for hay fever.

Sorry about your ceiling.

Was given Piriton at the hospital when I suddenly got a weird rash. My GP, consultant and midwife all said it was fine, and that it was the safest of the antihistamines on the market. I've taken a few since when my hayfever has been at its worst. Check with your doctor (or NHS direct) first, but it shouldn't do much harm if it's used sparingly!

I know you can take loratadine. Pirton won't harm once or twice :)

I went to the docs for hayfever relief yesterday. Was told after 1st trimester Piriton is perfectly safe to take. There's also a new nasal spray for allergies called Prevalin which is also safe to take in pregnancy

Thanks all. Bit nervous as I went for a nap for a few hours and woke up feeling fine. Then as soon as I went back into that room, even though it's all been mopped 3 times, wiped, hoovered, doors & windows wide open & the ceiling has been patched up and covered with plastic sacks to stop any more dust coming down I'm immediately back to everything streaming and itching again. Hoping tomorrow it'll all be cleared and ok again, can't live on Piriton! Smile

I've had a general anaesthetic, three local anaesthetics, paracetamol, cocodamol, steroids, glaucoma medicine and antibiotics during this pregnancy, all prescribed and sanctioned by doctors and consultants.
I suspect piriton will do you no harm whatsoever xxx
