Pelvic floor pressure at 17wks

Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to post.

I'm 17+4 and having a funny old week of it, this is my second baby and first time round was a breeze whereas this time seems harder some how!

Anyway...getting to the point of my post, for the past couple of days I've been experiencing pressure on my pelvic floor - well my nunny to be blunt! It feels a bit swollen too!

Last night I stupidly googled it and freaked myself out reading things about prolapsed pelvic floors and cervixes opening up Shock

I spoke to my midwife today a she was reassuring just saying that it's one of those things and to put my feet up as much as poss (not sure how much that's gonna happen with a 2yr old around!)

But I guess I really just wanted to ask if any one else has experienced anything similiar, I feel like it's quite early for this sort of thing?! Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks Smile

I'm getting a similar feeling and I'm only 14 weeks. I too am getting paranoid about it especially since i had to have an erpc back in January. I'm concerned that i may have damage to my cervix.

I don't have any advice but I'll be watching the thread with interest.

Just wanted to update that have established that I've got some sort of pelvic floor prolapse going on caused by the relaxin hormone softening all the ligaments up, previous weakening from childbirth and also the weight of the baby.

I'm booked in with women's health physio on weds for her advice but hopefully it should all be ok as long as I do pelvic floor exercises like there is no tomorrow!! And hopefully not necessarily any effects afterwards apart from the norm.

Luckily my friend is a physio and she has been very reassuring and a great help, she made me realise that this doesn't have to be as limiting as it feels.

Hope that helps anyone out there in a similar situation - defo would advise self referring to physio if you can as my midwife didn't seem to know much about it!

How can you tell? I mean, what does it feel like? I'm worried now that I have this and I just don't know!

Thanks for the update. It's good to know it's nothing too serious for you. I imagine it's quite a common thing to happen.

Get clenching!

Did your gp diagnose it, by the way?

littlepickly · 04/07/2014 21:56

No I haven't been to my gp, I have kind of self diagnosed but based on my symptoms I was pretty sure and my physio friend is quite sure too. Apparently it is common in pregnancy yeah.

Carminerose - I just felt a lot of pressure and discomfort down below and almost like something was going to fall out - sounds very dramatic but just describing the sensation! I also could feel a slight bulge in my vaginal wall and this is everything pushing down. Hope that helps, you would probably know if you had it as it's a bit uncomfortable.
