I am sorry if this is the wrong place, it may be miscarriage related?

I have had two blood tests five days apart:
17,000 and 31,000. (tests because my symptoms stopped).
Dr daid not to worry. It's a normal level for 6 weeks.

But all the information points to hcg doubling every 2/3 days and it hasn't done in 5.

I had a miscarriage previously.

Any experience/ clues as to what is going on.

It is impossible to say. The fact that HCG is going up suggests that there is an ongoing pregnancy. Different people do different things in terms of HCG going up. Everyone is different in terms of how the HCG rises.

Sorry that I can't say anything more definitive. It is just going to be a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.

Hope it goes well for you.

I'm sure I was told by my EPU that HCG is only reliable early on, i.e 4-6 weeks and after that point, ultrasounds are the only way to know what's going on.

I know this because I went in with bleeding and they did the HGC to see where I was in pregnancy before they scanned me.

I hope its all ok xx

Hmm. Thanks. As I am 6 weeks I guess it's slightly towards the negative. Especially with vanished symptoms.
It's about the same time as my last miscarriage as well. I guess this will end up the same. 6 weeks to a scan. Long wait.

Yes, less than doubling in 2 days is indicative of a pregnancy which needs further investigation.

Can you get another blood test? I was scanned within hours of my second blood test not showing a doubling, and in surgery that night - I was also bleeding.

Equally, with that level of HCG, at 6 weeks pregnant, you should be able to see something on a scan. Who has suggested you just wait it out? Are you in England?

eurochick · 27/06/2014 16:52

You can always get an early viability scan privately (or on the NHS, if you can persuade a dr or EPU). I know that time moves incredibly slowly in the first tri, particularly if you have had a previous loss. I couldn't have made it to 12 weeks without knowing there was something in there - I would have been a wreck.

seasavage · 27/06/2014 17:02

Thanks. Yes. I am a wreck. It is very frustrating to be told not to worry about this by the Dr.
Yes i am in UK. My first scan wouldn't be until 12 weeks.
I wish there was somewhere I could pay for a scan right now. But realistically. It's Friday in the UK. Sad

Hi.
Ime I declined these blood tests because they just don't give any helpful information.
Is there not an epau near you?

addictedtosugar · 27/06/2014 17:27

Where was the Dr based? Your GP? Or in a pregnancy assessment unit?
Have you had any contact with a midwife?

If you have not already been in contact with a midwife or EPU, I'd ring them on Monday morning, with your exact dates and HCG levels, and see if they can offer an explanation. The fact that the HCG levels rose in the 5 days suggests there is still a pregnancy progressing, but maybe not at the rate it should.

Thanks

There is an Epu. Dr (at gps) had checked re. Lack of symptoms but they were unconcerned by that. Second dr (at gps) suggested blood test. Third dr doesn't seem to think that the results are significant.
