Is this photo an early miscarriage?

I won't post the photo until I'm sure it's not breaking Talk guidelines, bit I only found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago, haven't had my first midwife appt yet, so am still at that stage of disbelief.

I'm 45 and had two prior healthy pregs and births age 38 and 40. I've never had a miscarriage.

I started bleeding a normal period flow yesterday, no other symptoms, and after I'd been to the loo I felt a big lump coming out. It's as big as a pound coin, looks a bit grey skin coloured and seems to actually look tadpole shaped. That kind of thickness and colour means it's the foetus surely?

If there is anyone who isn't squeamish and not likely to trigger, could you give me your view if I PM'd the photo or am I being weird about it? I just need to know I think. Is this too strange a request?

It sounds exactly like a miscarriage. Sorry :(
You need to call the mw or GP as you might be sent for a scan depending on your stage. Look after yourself Thanks Cake

I'll look for you. I haven't had a miscarriage like you describe (had a blighted ovum when carrying twins) but I'm not squeamish so don't mind looking.

eurochick · 27/06/2014 10:06

It does sound like an mc. When mine passed it looked a bit like a quashed blueberry (so greyish, like you describe).

Imnotaslimjim · 27/06/2014 10:07

Sorry, it does sound like it. I had a mc in similar circumstances, with a very similar result.

Get I'm touch with your GP and ask for a referral to the EPAU for a scan

Hubbubs · 27/06/2014 10:07

Thanks Everard I'll PM

I had a misscarriage in march at about 6 weeks, sounds like what I had.
Really sorry if it is a misscarriage.
Call your gp or midwife. If you get no help from them, I called the epau at the local hospital and they saw me

Actually neither device will upload photos. I've just arranged into shape on my hand, it must be a m/c. Sorry for graphic post, I'm a bit matter of fact about some things just needed some views.

So sorry {{}}

If you still want someone to take a look, you could always get a nurse at your GP surgery to look?

Hubbubs · 27/06/2014 10:20

It's not three dimensional though. There's little bulbous bits that are grey/skin coloured and one end peters into a tiny tail, yet it's all flat otherwise. I'm hoping the post title doesn't draw anyone in who might find this too graphic.
But yes, I might take it into the surgery later and ask someone to look. Thankyou.
I feel a bit protective of it, I'm talking to it and and have put it AI little box, is this normal behaviour? I remember 'missing' my placenta at my father births, for some reason it felt like I hadn't had opportunity to give it credit for the work it did and then it was 'birthed' too and disposed of unceremoniously, so I could just be a strange one..

I'm tempted to google image but not sure yet..

Excuse typo errors in that last post.

I would seek some real life medical advice. I'm sorry for your loss, if it is indeed a miscarriage. Take care x

squizita · 27/06/2014 11:07

Sadly yes that sounds like it is. So sorry.

If you have it (and feel up to doing so) take it in a clean container to your local EPU or GP surgery, so they can check you've passed everything (to avoid infection) and do a pathology. This can be useful in finding out what caused it (usually a 1 off non-viable embryo, sadly, but that gives peace of mind and answers at least).

If you don't feel you can do that, still go and see a Dr because they'll need to check you out.

justjuanmorebeer · 27/06/2014 11:29

I had an early miscarriage and this is exactly what it looked like. so sorry for your loss xxxx

Mouldypineapple · 27/06/2014 11:34

It sounds similar to when I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks a few years ago, although I had very heavy bleeding and passed a lot of large 'lumps' Went to A&E to be assessed and they removed what they repeatedly called 'tissue' which was in fact my baby. I kept it and actually took a couple of photos, I guess to prove in a way (to myself only) that it was real. We then buried it in a family grave nearby. This really helped with my healing process and when we pass the cemetery i always say hello. Makes it more special to me.

squizita · 27/06/2014 11:41

Just out of sensitivity, the term "early miscarriage" isn't widely used because grading losses may upset some women (i.e. an early one will be less physically/emotionally hurtful). And can be clinically confusing as can 'chemical pregnancy' - in fact any loss 4-12 weeks is likely to have the same causes. It's just 'miscarriage'.

"Miscarriage" = between positive pregnancy test and 12 weeks (the embryo/placenta are still in development).
"Late Miscarriage" = between 13 and 24 weeks (this is because the placenta has taken over).
Losses after 24 weeks are classed as stillbirths.

littlejohnnydory · 27/06/2014 15:07

I have only had one miscarriage, and it involved a lot more "tissue" than you describe, several pieces much bigger than my fist. I'm not sure what else this could be though, and it does sound like bad news, so sorry :-( Getting GP to take a look is probably a good idea and they may scan you to see if any "tissue" is remaining.
