New born clothes/Baby grows

Beginning to build up some supplies now Im 23w.

Please in your experience, where is the best place to buy relatively simple baby grows and clothes for newborns?

I'm looking for darker colours for a baby girl. I was thinking perhaps baby grows to begin with so I don't have to faff about with trying to put her in a top or skirt tights etc.

Bear in mind Im a FTM so I don't really have a clue.

Supermarkets are fine. Mothercare does quite nice multi packs. Smile

I let everyone else buy the cute outfits and just bought short sleeved vests and long sleeved sleepsuits with the feet in.

I got loads of hand me downs which put me off of supermarkets. I liked the quality of next, mothercare, boots & M&S. The ones with the built in scratch mitts are good, as seperate mitts just fall off. Socks are better at staying on, more elastic I suppose.

Also try and buy a few cardigans and little cotton hats. Hopefully you'll have a knitting family member! Gap were good for the hats - you'll need really tiny ones for the hospital and early days.

Enjoy the shopping!

Thank you, didn't think of Boots & M&S.

She is due in October.

I've started buying some bits and bobs (including a very cute strawberry wool hat) on eBay, which of course I will wash first. I love white company stuff but its very expensive, which i don't think i can justify when its likely she will grow like a weed and i don't know if white is very practical as if she is anything like me, she'll be very messy.

is buying from ebay ok do you think?

I might get her a 'going home' outfit but the rest will be supermarket specials!

These are handy too for getting on - easy access!

Envelope necks on vests pull down when they do a poo explosion (NICE!)

Ebay is good, as are the facebook selling pages an nct nearly new sales.

NovemberRainbow · 25/06/2014 17:42

Gap have some babygros with zips instead of poppers, lots easier imo.

Yes to eBay, I have got some lovely bits for hardly anything and most still have the tags on.

Tangoandcreditcards · 25/06/2014 17:58

Someone bought me a white company one, it was REALLY skinny and too long (and DS is long) impossible to get on and virtually see through. Save your pennies.

I bought newborn stuff job lot on eBay 10 vests and 10 babygrows that served me for the first 6/8 weeks and a few things from asda and M&S. I found the M&S the best sleepsuits (integrated mitts, bigger than most).

I personally don't like the zippy babygrows if they only go down one leg - harder for nappy changes. Popper ones all the way (avoid over-the-head for a tiny baby - I was given a couple).

Asda stuff was ok but small on him v quickly. No way of knowing until your baby arrives though!

BeginnerSAHM · 25/06/2014 17:59

Agree that Boots is good! And mothercare was a much better for for my babies than John Lewis plain white sleep suits (which I think are lovely on newborns...). Sainsbury's is ok too but big.

Heatherbell1978 · 25/06/2014 20:19

I'm 32 wks and fully stocked up with sleepsuits! Not buying any outfits as such as I figure those are the kinds of things friends like to buy. I've bought a few vest packs from Tesco and Sainsburys but the vast majority of sleepsuits are 3-packs from a Next. Loads of mums recommended them to me as being good quality and washing the best. H&M baby has nice stuff too. I actually bought a few wrap-around body suits there today.

Hasle157 · 26/06/2014 00:22

Asda is great, they have a wide selection of affordable but nice baby clothes and you don't mind if they get covered in sick stains because they didn't cost much in the first place!

rightsaidfred · 26/06/2014 00:27

Ebay is ok but can be really hit and miss with some things disappointing when they arrive. Do you have a mum2mum market near you? The stuff is really good quality and you can see before you buy. Works out loads cheaper than ebay too as you don't pay postage

rightsaidfred · 26/06/2014 00:28

Sorry- should have said you can find them here if you don't know what a mum2mum market is! www.mum2mummarket.co.uk

hubbahubster · 26/06/2014 07:42

I like the H&M sleepsuits and leggings with feet as they have elastic round the ankles, so baby can't end up pulling their feet/whole leg up to the crotch while wiggling about!

NorksEnormous · 26/06/2014 07:45

I loved next sleep suits, they have some gorgeous colours and patterns, I remember my dd had a lovely turquoise blue one with big sheep all over it in the hospital and all the nurses commented how lovely it was! Asda is good too, however they will be white/baby pink colours.

SandwichBag · 26/06/2014 09:31

I think ive brought sleepsuits from everywhere lol! Asda Dreamskin sleepsuits feel very soft, but obviously I wont know what they're like until I start to use them.

I've also brought quite a few things from Vertbaudet - they always have sales on, sent me a buy one get one free code and a free changing bag... these look great (although again don't really know until I start to use them):

I have twins and have bought a lot of sleepsuits. IMO the best by far are Next. They have beautiful designs from pinks to whites to bright colours. Supermarket sleepsuits are not the same quality.

They haven't passed on to both my sisters babies and are still in good condition.

neversleepagain · 26/06/2014 09:51

The have, not haven't!
