I've got my anomaly scan tomorrow and I'm glad to have the opportunity to have one, I know some areas don't do them routinely. I've got no reason that I know of to worry, but I've become increasingly nervy over the last week leading up to it! Of course I'm really looking forward to seeing baby, but worry is definitely outweighing the excitement. Do other people feel like this prior to a scan?

I was terrified - I'd been in complete denial for the first few weeks of knowing about pregnancy and carried on eating and drinking the wrong things with a passion! At the first scan I was just surprised to hear her confirm that there was actually a baby in there! the second one was the one really concerning me, but everything was fine - as I am certain it will be for you.

Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.

Everyone feels nervous before a scan but once your in the rooms and see your little baby on the screen it's the most amazing thing ever.

Is this your first baby????

eddm · 28/03/2004 22:10

Yes - really scared before 20 week scan. Just to add to this had been in car crash days before (only injured my ankle though). Normal to worry but if you don't have any particular risk factors then it should be OK. I found scans really reassuring and a great chance to bond with the bump - made him seem much more real, somehow. Hope you get to see your dd or ds moving around in there Sonographer laughed at me because ds was copying my position - lying in exactly the same pose!

Hope it goes well Levanna - please let us know. I have only had the 12w scan so far, but that was just lovely. I did feel anxious leading up to it though. For me, part of it is the whole emphasis from the medics on anomalies/problems etc. I was 10 seconds in to my booking appt and I was being asked about testing for Downs, more blood tests etc etc. The whole emphasis was on potential problems. Not once was I actually asked how I felt, in myself, or anything routine like have I been feeling sick?

I sat outside with dp and just said I am so glad I have my friends, family and MN to give me a more balanced view of this whole thing, rather than think of it all as a series of potential problems. No wonder we get jittery!!

I've had 3 scans so far (due to threatened miscarriage) but all was well. I still don't believe there is a baby in there, I can feel him/her moving now as well, does that sound crazy I keep waiting for someone to say no sorry you've just put on weight.

I have my scan next week and am starting to get worried about it especially after I dreamt about it and they told me it was a girl but it only had half a brain - I woke up in a terrible state!

Hi Levanna,

How did it go? I really hope it was all good!

Take care, Libb xxx

Hi, thanks for your support . Worry over!
Yes, SHE's fine . All's well! It was all really detailed, and reassuring. After she (scan lady!) had finished checking her out, we all sat and watched her sucking her thumb for what seemed like ages, we could see her jaw moving to suck and it was amazing . Even the lady doing the scan seemed rapt....she said that they don't often get to watch them 'in the act .
Thanks again, best wishes for everyone else due scans soon .

beansprout · 30/03/2004 09:19

Levanna - that's great, I'm so pleased it went well. Wow - watching thumb sucking, that must have been amazing!!

Oh god, that's gorgeous.

Toyiba · 30/03/2004 18:39

I felt exactly the same levanna b4 my anomaly scan. i had mine on mon 29th march, the sonographer showed me all its limbs being intact. but also stated that the baby is small.
i've been given a date for another scan to check the baby's growth, but it is now worrying me. i have had a miscarriage in the past and it took me 3 years to conceive again. so you can understand how nerve wrecking and upsetting this can for me.

Levanna · 30/03/2004 22:35

Hi. Yes, it was amazing!
Toyiba, sorry to hear about your worries following your scan. When do you have the next one? I have difficulty conceiving too though I've been lucky and not suffered a miscarriage before. This must be worrying for you, and I'll be thinking of you and hope everything sounds more positive at your next scan. xx

Toyiba, I too hate scans. I learnt about my 2 missed miscarriages at scans (14 wks and 12 wks). They were the worst moments of my life. I also have difficulty conceiving and have needed fertility drugs. After my first miscarriage it took 2 years to get pg again only to lose the baby at the end of 3 months. Now I am pg again and have a scan today, I am dreading it.

Toyiba · 07/04/2004 01:04

Levanna, my next scan is on the 28th April. I really wish that the baby will be fine.

Bunny2, how was ur scan? I hope its all good news
