first month TTC. tested over and again from cycle day 25 - 36 as was quite keen but all negative. tested again, just in case, the morning before i went to the dentist where they x-rayed my teeth - i wanted to be absolutely sure, and again it was negative (cd37). then later that week i was prescribed and took 5 days worth of antibiotics.
cd47 yesterday and i've always had crazy cycles so i wasn't overly concerned (longest ever being over 90 days) but some niggling 'symptoms' enticed me to test and an immediate BFP!

oh and exposure to chicken pox last week too, not to mention the nightly glasses of wine since i was sure i was clear until next month Blush

all this means i'm delighted but terrified i've damaged my little bean.
don't want to google just in case. longing to visit the dr but have to wait until after the weekend.....Sad

My dentist would X-ray pregnant women, HOWEVER, he did say that now they've been taught that dental X-rays are perfectly safe. They (dentists) just choose not to do it as a precaution, that's all. So - good(-ish) news!
As for antibiotics - many of us get UTI's or other minor infections- all treated with antibiotics. I was beside myself when a "possible" UTI showed, and had to take antibiotics. Not sure how the child will turn out, but the fact that majority of pregnant women have taken them, gives me comfort. I've calmed down loads now.
As for wine - rarely anyone who doesn't drink (I'm a t-total but many, many people aren't, plus drink LOADS when they don't yet know they're preggers). As long as you're not on a bottle or two a day from now on - all should be well!
:)

*would NOT - is what I meant to say in the first sentence

The placenta doesn't develop straight away, so it's very hard to damage an embryo at that stage. And you have to actually get cp for it to be an issue afaik.

whereisshe · 21/06/2014 16:19

And congratulations Grin

Noyoucantwatchpeppapig · 21/06/2014 18:58

On the X-ray front (i'm a radiographer) a dental X-ray is extremely low risk. X-rays are targeted to the area and your head is away from your abdomen. The only risky X-rays in pregnancy are if you have your abdomen/pelvis xrayed and even this would be done in certain circumstances.
Agree with other posters about antibiotics/wine the planeta won't be formed. My DD was unplanned and I was drinking up until 2 days before BFP, She is now 3.
Congratulations on your BFP

Hello, congratulations! Please be reassured by the fact that many many women eat/drink/take/do things that are not strictly recommended before realising that they are pregnant. Just to respond to what a couple of people above have said though, as soon as the embryo implants ( a couple of days after conception usually) it is sharing your blood supply and potentially being exposed to things you ingest. That said, very early in pregnancy, the embryo is made of cells with the potential to become any type of cell, and so can withstand a bit of damage because it can afford to lose a few of these. As for the chickenpox, if you've had the virus or the vaccination there should be no issue. If not, you should contact your GP ASAP as they might want to give you some chickenpox immunoglobulin, which is basically a shot of antibody. During the first trimester the risk of chickenpox harming your baby is lower than later in pregnancy anyway, and this will not apply at all if you are already immune. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and try not to worry x

Thank you all, your responses have let me be happy rather than worried, very grateful.
Thanks

That's good, so pleased for you x

LittlePeas everything I've read says the baby never shares your blood supply, just that certain things can cross the placenta? And that until the placenta forms the embryo uses the yolk sac for nutrition, not anything from the mother? Is that incorrect?

LittlePeasMummy1 · 22/06/2014 20:53

Hello, as soon as the embryo implants, it exchanges nutrients and waste products with the mother. That's what I meant by sharing a blood supply, sorry for any confusion. That's how HCG appears in the the mother's bloodstream, and also why folic acid taken by the mother helps to reduce the risk of neural tube defects between weeks four and six.
