Urinary Incarceration (pregnancy related)

Anyone suffered with this or know any information about it?? I'm 13 weeks pregnant and in the last week I've struggled to urinate in the mornings (I don't suffer during the day)

I've Googled it and it seems it's urinary incarceration caused by my retroverted uterus (I know definitely that I have that). I've read it seems eases after the first trimester - but mine is just beginning in the second trimester.

I'm obviously worried the problem might get worse and I might need catheterising. And as I found out the name for what I am suffering with I went on Wikepedia and obviously scared the crap out of myself about the complications it can cause! Blush

I'm Consultant led due to high BMI - I thought I would give it a week or two and make an appointment with the Consultant and talk it over but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't Google!

Many of us have lack if urine flow during the 2nd trimester (then its all too much urine in the 3rd lol). I really had to push to get a trickle.
Although its worth speaking to your Dr, most likely it is a normal element of pregnancy or a minor issue like a urine infection you can take tablets for.

I've been pregnant before and never had anything like it. As I am lying in bed in the morning I'm very desperate for the toilet, it's my overnight full bladder so I am bursting - but as I sit on the toilet it all stops. Yesterday it took me 40 minutes to wee - I tried in the shower and all sorts.

I was warned about this following an early scan as I also have a retoverted uterus. I was told to seek medical attention at first sign, but was lucky enough to avoid it. Don't mean to panic you but I would see someone sooner rather than later - do you have a walk in urgent care centre near you? Hope it doesn't get any worse.

Thanks baking. I think you can have complications if your bladder wont empty but I know it works ok during the day - I'm not worried for now but more as my pg progresses

I found that for me it eased after a while. Leaning forward and rocking back and forth helped to move bladder and baby around enough to empty bladder.

Dont wait to mention things....if ur struggling to wee abd not weeing that much you can cause yourself bad infections as the wee just sits ther and festers in ur bladder. m currently 36+3 and baby related part, ive had an easy pregnancy but on my part its been the worst time -.- ive had endless bad uti's and had a blocked kidney wich was slowly poisening me and now have a nephrostomy tube fitted. Ive spent more time at hospital etc and want our lil man out now! Also have mild preeclampsia too! I understand your fears, but if you have to have a catheter for a while i wouldnt refuse. The longer you pt it off the worse your going to be x

I had this, it didn't last long, my uterus soon got big enough and all was fine again. I found the catheter very uncomfortable and stressful at the time so they taught me how to self cathertise, and sent me on my way. It only lasted a couple of weeks tops. It's very very rare for you to be unable to wee at all and is resolvable.

Thanks everyone for replying. Ooh Boogles that does sound like a bad run - you deserve a lovely labour after going through all of that.

MissVaughn, HoneyDragon - when did the problem start for you and when did it go away?

Very early about where you are now and as I said, as soon as your uterus gets a bit bigger it stops so hopefully very soon for you this will be over.

It's basically like an orange dropping in a cup, it's heavier but small enough to drop down a bit making things uncomfortable.

Brilliant thank you
