When babies arrive (before due date or late) and how active mum is?
I'm 34 weeks pregnant at the minute am on annual leave before maternity leave kicks in just before due date. I'm currently decorating various parts of the house, painting walls, ceiling, regrouting tiles, putting new floors down etc and also decluttering, organising cupboards etc and doing properly cleans ie the oven etc.
I'm feeling fine, not pushing myself too hard, having breaks, not stretching too much, etc but people keep telling me stop or I'll bring on early labour?

So firstly is this true?
Secondly how early / late were your babies and what were you doing in the last few weeks of pregnancy.
Do you think your activity levels affected when your babies came?
Thanks!

I was wondering this too. I'm also 34 weeks - still at work though, finish next Friday. While I'm working I am really active - active job, and walking dog twice a day, have to do all housework etc as living alone. Next Sunday I move to my parents for rest of pregnancy and won't be so active then.

Well I guess ask your midwife, but I'd say they're talking old-fashioned rubbish!
I've been v active near the end of all my pregnancies and have never been more than a day early.

purplemurple1 · 20/06/2014 18:41

I was mowing the lawn or walking about 45 min every day in the last months or so ans came a week early. I've no idea if there is any correlation, it's not something I've heard of before.

Ive just started tp get these urges...36+2 and nothing! Shit loads bh, period type pains, back ache....still nothing :( want him out! So uncomfy this past week, and im not supposed to do much as i have mild preeclampsia and a nephrostomy in me back....still doesnt stop me though

Fairypants · 20/06/2014 18:50

Both my dd's were born in the week before they were due and I was very sedentary due to severe SPD.
I have short menstral cycles though so I suspect I just have a shorter gestation period.

ithoughtofitfirst · 20/06/2014 19:48

I think it could help to be more active. I was deeply depressed last pregnancy and spent the second half of It lying in bed doing as little housework or anything as possible. I went 12 days overdue surprise surprise. I had a friend with a really bad back and thus similar energy levels (understandably) and she went a week before EDD

I am running 10k runs a few times a week this time and will be really surprised if I go super overdue again.

I have been told to maintain gentle exercise during the 3rd trimester by my mW, apparently it helps baby turn and obviously helps with fitness for labour.
Sounds like that's what you're doing!

Thanks everyone for your stories or opinions. I think whilst I'm feeling up to it, I'll just carry on but not be silly.

SIL redecorated her whole house on mat leave and went 13 days over.

I lay on my arse for two weeks, went in to labour two days past edd.

Its purely anecdotal and means shite all but it wont stop me from lounging while on Mat Leave this time too.

jessiemummy28 · 20/06/2014 21:47

I was really active throughout pregnancy... I went for a 5 mile walk the day I went into labour, 6 days overdue!

Mitchell2 · 20/06/2014 21:49

FWIW I was still going to gym/personal training sessions up to 37 weeks, worked very long hours until 39. Very active still... (Swimming and still walking at least 3 miles a day) aaaannddddd...40+4 today Grin

It's a combination of genetics, your cycles and a bit of luck IMHO - but I've remained super active because a) I've been lucky enough to be able to and b) the birth is going to be hard so I want to be as fit as possible.

soaccidentprone · 20/06/2014 21:50

Ds1 was 2 weeks early. Ds2 was 2 weeks overdue. There is 6 years between them, and I worked f/t through both pregnancies. I also swam a couple of times a week, and walked for around 1/2 hr every day both times.

So I don't know what that is supposed to tell you!

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 20/06/2014 21:56

No, there isn't. Short of actually falling down or something.

But keeping active can help keep your stamina up for labour.
