Baby monitors

Hello, couple of questions about monitors... Has anyone used the Angelcare movement one and would you recommend it?

Also, I'm expecting my second baby but still want to use a monitor with older DS. Has anyone else used two monitors at the same time? Do you need to get different brands so you don't get interference?! Won't be an issue til baby is in own room at 6+ months, but wondering... Possibly a silly question!

Thanks!

I haven't used yet but got the angelcare monitor in morhercare was quite a good price £65.00, ive seen it for £100.00 elsewhere. A few people recommended and that's why I got it x

poocatcherchampion · 19/06/2014 21:33

yes we variously had two plugged in at both my parents house and my own. same brand ones appear to completely interfere with each other and nothing works. different brands including totally ancient ones work fine. never tried the fancy video ones though just basic ones.

MissHC · 19/06/2014 21:41

We've got one and ot works very well. Gives peace of mind. We haven't had issues with interference.

Andcake · 19/06/2014 21:52

Used angelcare from birth - lived it- even in our room I used it for the movement aspect. Basically I couldn't sleep without it worrying. I found argos was the cheapest place to buy.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 19/06/2014 21:53

We use two the same (think that they are BT) without problems.

I looked at the angelcare one but didn't get it because of this:

I got the bt digital video one, haven't used it yet but my sister has the same one and recommends it a lot (i got mine off ebay)

Angelcare all the way for me. I love mine!

I've just brought the tommee tippee digital sensor mat and it's half price ATM if that helps :) x

One thing to think about is that, with an older one, babies can end up napping wherever there is a suitable peaceful place at that time. A normal monitor is far easier to move from room to room than a sensor mat.

Andcake · 21/06/2014 11:31

If you buy an angelcare make sure you get the special lead protector after the recall mentioned above.
For me a movement monitor is a must as others don't pick up babies stopping breathing. You can't watch a video monitor for breathing all night !

KnackeredMuchly · 21/06/2014 11:58

We have an Angelcare and it did wonders for my PFB anxiety. The nightlight on it is brilliant too - a real subtle light so you can feed etc but not so it's startling and bright

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 21/06/2014 16:06

I think it is very personal whether you find a movement sensor helpful. To me personally I didn't want or need that high a level of surveillance.

NewJobNewLife · 21/06/2014 16:12

We have two BT monitors and they don't interfere with each other.

I don't like the idea of the movement sensors. There will be false alarms, and I don't think you have much chance of success resuscitating a baby that stopped breathing if it wasn't a false alarm. Personally, it would just make me more worried and on edge.

whenskiesareblue · 21/06/2014 18:15

Thanks so much for all the replies. Still in two minds about the Angelcare one. But lots of good advice here, thank you Thanks

Our Angelcare movement monitor (separate from the baby monitor as we already had that) was one of the best £40 I've ever spent. I was in the ridiculous position of my 8 week old DS sleeping through for 8 or so hours, but unable to sleep myself as I was terrified he would stop breathing and I wouldn't know about it until I woke up.

NewJobNewLife, I get what you're saying, but I was always terrified that something would happen while I was asleep, so even if there may have been not much I could do about if he had stopped breathing at least i could go to sleep knowing that as long as the alarm didn't sound all was well. I know it wouldn't suit some people though.

PinkParsnips · 21/06/2014 22:29

Yes we are using it and think it's great for an anxious person like me! No problems with false alarms or interference.

TitsCrossed · 21/06/2014 22:32

Love our Angelcare! It can be used without the sensor mat or with. If you get interference I think you can change channels on it. When dd was born we bought a cheapo basic sound monitor for toddler ds and there is no problem with using both at once.

The recall/additional kit for securing the wire isn't really a problem if you install it correctly. Our cot has a slatted base so easy to weave the wire in and out and then wrap around cot leg so no way baby can pull it into the cot with her. I think the instructions say you should drill a hole in a solid based cot for the wire to go through.

TitsCrossed · 21/06/2014 22:35

Oh and the only false alarm we had is when baby completely wiggled off the pad and wedged herself at top of cot and when we forget to turn it off on picking up baby
You can alter the sensitivity too.

KnackeredMuchly · 21/06/2014 23:00

The Angelcare is designed to do a loud beep if it doesn't detect breathing within 20 seconds. If you baby is drifting off and stopping breathing - the beep can jolt them awake. The alarm sounds to alert you that they have stopped.

We've had 3 or 4 false alarms in 14 months. The first time it is debatable whether it was a false alarm, but I can accept it could have been - I can't remember how old he was, but not very young. The other 2 or 3 times was when my son crept all the way down to the very bottom of his cot when he was about 8 months old. He's stopped doing that after about a month!

It was great for the first 2 months - and now I find it useful as once in a blue moon he sleeps more than expected - he had a lie in till 8.30 one day and scared the crap out of me! It's nice knowing the monitor is there on days like that.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 22/06/2014 22:07

Agree re the lie ins....on the odd occasion that dd does this, I don't even have to worry about why I haven't heard her. Same when she's poorly.

donkir · 22/06/2014 22:18

I had a sensor mat for ds now age 12. The only downside was I'd forget to turn off monitor when ds woke up so would get half way down the stairs and have to run back up. Or when breast feeding was a nightmare turning it on and off every half hour.
