Low lying anterior placenta nearly reaching OS

Hi all. i know anterior and low lying placentas are a common phenomenon these days. but when i found out today at my 15 weeks +1 day scan that I too have a low lying anterior placenta nearly reaching os, i couldn't help but worry, worry and worry!
my sonologist told me to be extra careful now on and said they might even suggest a bed-rest!
i am confused, i didn't have any bleeding/spotting so far (thank God) however, that could be because i had been taking things rather slow this month. i also took this month off from my work as i had too much of vomitting and nausea. Now office starts from Monday. please advise what should i do?? stairs, walk, everything please!!!
and what shouldn't i do??? should i go back to office or not? although i have a desk job, but the travel to and back from work is a load! please help!

Hi,

I only found out about mine at my 20 week scan. Same as you, no spotting or bleeding. I've been advised to avoid heavy lifting (anything over 10kg) for the time being. Rest as much as possible. No sex tbh, I'm quite relieved by this one, not feeling my most attractive at the moment I'm still working full time, and my bosses have been more than accommodating, stool for sitting down to work, extra rest breaks and someone to help with deliveries.

Anterior placentas tend to move up and out the way, so risk of bleeding in theory decreases as your pregnancy progresses. If you notice any bleeding though, get straight to the hospital.

Oh and bed rest is only advised if you have a bleed.

I've had this with both of my successful pregnancies and didn't avoid sex ;) avoided lifting anything though and only had a touch of spotting at the very end with DC2. I ended up with two ELCS as with DC1 the placenta didn't move, and with DC2 the anterior portion did move but I also had a posterior lobe (special!) which was low and this didn't move.

Because the incision had to go through the placenta, I lost a lot of blood during delivery, but as everyone was prepared for this it wasn't a problem.

Hmm, I didn't get any of this advice. I found out at 20 weeks I have a low placenta that reaches, but doesn't cover, the cervix. All I was told was to call the midwife if I had any bleeding (which I haven't). I wasn't told to avoid sex or avoid lifting heavy things. In fact, at 23 weeks I went on a long haul flight.

You don't need bed rest, that has its own risks and should be managed appropriately. As your pregnancy progresses it should hopefully move, but you may be more likely to have some bleeding..if you do, call your 24hr contact number
