ceaserean not being done until 40+2

I've been to see the consultant today to be booked in for a ceaserean because my baby is breech but the theatre is so full they can't fit me in until 40+2! He said it's not really acceptable they want to do it at 39 weeks but there's no slots, I'm terrified I go in to labour before then! Has anyone experienced having a section so late when baby is breech?

No, but MIL had 3 natural breech births and she's fine. Is it your first child? how many weeks are you now and do you have history of premature labour?

Don't worry about it. If your waters break or you start labouring, you give labour ward a call, let them know you're breech and have a booked ELCS and you go in for assessment. A CS will be done as soon as is safe to do so.

Occasionally people labour with breech babies and it's a quick labour, then they would have a discussion with you regarding vaginal breech birth vs CS depending on your stage of labour.

Im 37+4 it's my first baby, I've just read scary things on the Internet about cord prolapse etc I'm not scared of actually going in to labour just about things going wrong I'm overly anxious anyway as I suffered recurrent miscarriage before this pregnancy so I worry about every little thing. They said they don't recommend breech delivery unless I was so far advanced there was no option.

Butterfly are they aware of your situation? (I mean I know they will be aware, it's on your notes, but have you explained the anxiety you are feeling). I was in a similar situation but section only booked for 39+5, I pursued it a bit and was moves back to 38+9. After 38 weeks I'm inclined to think the baby is safer out than in, but that's probably based on my own anxieties. I think you need to kick up a bit of a fuss. They could arrange for you to go to another hospital even.

My ds was breech. I was booked in for a elcs on the Thursday at 39+4 but my waters broke on the Sunday at 11pm. Called the hospital they said to go in and they would monitor me and book me in for a cs in the morning. As it happened I started getting tightenings and they gave me a cs at 4.30am. It was classed as a emcs but was so calm, I walked to theatre and was out of hospital on the Tuesday (quicker than some of my VB friends).
Don't worry. X

I think I was thrown today because it wasn't my normal consultant it was another one of her team which I was a bit annoyed about seeing as this appointment was to discuss my options, I feel like if it was my consultant she would have pushed for an earlier date I did say I was uncomfortable with it being after my due date but I didn't push it. I think I'd just rather have baby out now I've found pregnancy very stressful with my history, I'm measuring 41 weeks and have been in a couple of times with swelling and bp worries which turned out fine but I just want everything to go ok. If I ring up would I ring labour ward or my consultants secretary?

Do you mean ringing up when in labour, or to press for a change? For the latter I'd go for the secretary, stress your unhappiness/fear (a lot of us downplay this in front of others, this is not the time for that) and if no response bring it up with midwife.

You only had a couple of extra checks, I practically moved into the triage unit! Wink A cliche to say it'll be worth it in the end, but it bloody will Grin
