Hi I'm 29 weeks with my first baby and was just looking for some advice. Is a baby bath worth buying or should I buy a baby seat for our big bath? What's best? TIA x

What rootypig said. We used a baby bath for the first few baths and then moved to a bath in a few inches of water, which dd1 and dd2 both loved.

I do use my top and tail bowl every day, it was a good purchase for me.

I loved my top and tail bowl. But we didn't use it as intended. We washed her in her room and had warm water in a thermos there for nappy changes and in the evening we filled in side with fresh water. The other side of the bowl was used for the used cotton wool. If you start with eyes, face and hand you still have enough clean water for the bottom.

I've always wondered why people don't do this. Is there a genuine reason why two separate bowls are better? (8 weeks with DC 1, so got a while to figure out what to start buying!)

I mostly bathed baby with me. You don't have to bath them very often, in fact I think they say infrequently is better for their skin. We did every week or so. Nothing lovelier than cuddling a baby in a bath together. She only pooed on me once… :)

We did have a baby bath and I liked using it - wouldn't call it essential but even at 8 months sometimes baby would sit out on the balcony in the sunshine having a splash, it was lovely!

They are soooo teeny at first, I remember getting out the baby bath at 7 days old to use and I just couldn't put her in it, it looked too big! So I washed her with cotton wool balls instead...

We just used little plastic bowls we already had for the equivalent of top and tail bowls.

DD either splashed in a couple of inches of water in the big bath or came in with me. She used to love going in the shower with DH.

We used our baby bath (borrowed from friend) for a good few months. Used a stand for a couple of weeks as I couldn't get on the floor after c-section, OH did all the emptying I don't think I would have managed to do it on my own. We moved onto a hammock in the big bath when LO was about 3/4 months old

We used the bathroom sink when DS was tiny, with a sponge base like this in it to make it comfortable for him, and to stop him bashing his tiny head on the taps! www.amazon.co.uk/Summer-Infant-Comfy-Bath-Sponge/dp/B000H953Y2

Later had him in the big bath, either with me or just on a bath mat. (Or the sponge when he was smaller.)

Was given a baby bath, but it was a monumental pain in the arse, so only used it the once.

I've bought the Angelcare bath support from Mamas and Papas. It apparently does from newborn up to when they can sit up in a normal bath so I thought it was decent value. Plus it's a rubbery seat which keeps baby warmer than plastic.
