Reading to your bump?

Is anyone else reading to their bump? If so what are you reading?

Those of you who are already mummys- did your baby seem to recognize a story after birth? I am hoping that a rhyming book might be recognizable but perhaps it's wishful thinking?!

Does this actually do anything for them?

I sometimes sing to my bump but I hadn't thought to read anything.

Me and DP read to the bump, not that we think "the tiger coming for tea" will turn PFB into a genius it's just so that she gets used to our voices. We both find easier/less awkward than holding a one sided conversation with my uterus.

husband has been reading to baby since I turned 11 weeks. nearing 13 now. we are of the opinion that it cant do any harm and maybe hubbys voice will cause sound waves the baby can feel and later relate to the sound of daddies voice when finally held.

it also allows him to get involved as there isnt a huge amount for him to do for me just now.

We did with our first baby, but there's no need to with baby 2 when you've got a two-year-old because you spend most of your life reading to them. ;)

There was definitely no story recognition from DD when she was born, but she did seem to recognise songs. And she knew my DH's voice from birth too.

oh we are rrading the gruffalo. and guess how much I love you. dh bought more books today for variety although we are sure that the baby has no clue what a frog on the log is lol

I did with ds but didn't bother with dd. Lots of singing through both pregnancies though. Songs that are then sung at bedtime.

I sing and play him music.
I think reading is a lot like talking and since my words are muffled in there im sure he appreciates a good melody more that words.

We used to with DD, we read a book of first poems, it was nice to do. I have no idea if she recognised anything, but the idea was that she'd recognise daddy's voice.

We don't with bump this time, but I figured it hears me reading and singing to DD all the time. She talks to bump too, so I think bump will recognise her too.
