Hello, has anyone got any recommendations for books about babies first year? I know you can't learn from a book but I am going on holiday in a week and thought it might be worth having one to read.

I got "First time parent" 2nd hand. No parenting theory really, more just factual stuff like "how to do x" and things you need v luxury items. Quite an easy read.

What mothers do when it looks like nothing at all. It is not about how to care for a baby at all but about feelings related to motherhood. It helped me make sense of mothering without offering one useful tip. Was amazing.

'Keep Calm' the new mums manual by Dr Ellie Cannon. It's full of advice but no rules and it's all about how families are individual and that mothers should be able to trust their own mothering instinct, not feel they have to follow some procedures laid down for them. I've found it wonderfully reassuring.

my SIL just gave me her copy of "your baby week by week" by Dr Caroline Fertleman which is a brilliant book, covering 1st 6 mths and explains what to expect each week and tips on coping/dealing with everything. She says she couldn't have managed without it!(her dc is 7 mths now) available on amazon for around £9-10. HTH!
