TTC#1 at end of year

Hi all,

We are going to TTC for number 1 at the end of the year and was wondering if anyone has any tips on preparing myself and my boyfriend for this. I've decided to wait to the end of the year to save some money up so that I can stay home with the baby once it happens.
Any hints and tips are more than welcome.

Thanks

Honestly? Just have sex whenever you feel like it. Don't get bogged down straight away with ovulation sticks or temping, just see what happens. Unless of course you've got known problems which may affect fertility.

Saving up is good, bear in mind though it can take months to fall pregnant which is very normal.

I would start taking folic acid tablets, (if you have a bmi you will need to take a higher dose which you can get on prescription). Apart from that I didn't do anything special or different.

*high bmi that was meant to say.

We started TTC after we got married last September. Cos of our ages (both 35/36), we didn't want to leave it to chance too much so how much 'work' you put into it kind of depends how keen you are! I started taking folic acid a few months before the wedding and started tracking my periods when I came off the pill last June using an app. Then we bought the digital ovulation sticks and made sure we had sex when we got the 'smiley face'. Worked for us....I fell pregnant first month after wedding then sadly miscarried at 6 weeks. As it was an uncomplicated m/c and I ovulated again straight away, we just cracked on the following month. I fell pregnant again.....so now I'm 31 wks pregnant with little boy:-) Good luck!!

Agree with Heatherbell that it depends on your situation. At 32 and keen to conceive number one and aware it can take a long time, we did everything we could. Came off the pill, waited a month for normal periods to resume, then started tracking ovulation with Clearblue sticks and I even started taking my temperature (that was mainly because I found the whole process pretty interesting...). In my fertile week, we DTD every day. I conceived within 2 months (but I know I got very lucky!).

In the build up now, folic acid. And also do all the things you want to do before you have kids!
