Is it possible mw found my (racing!) heartbeat, rather than baby's?

Had 16 week appointment and my mw checked heartbeat with a doppler. After a short time (which felt like forever), she found a faint heartbeat (I thought I could maybe hear it too) but said she wanted pick it up better. So she moved the doppler a bit then picked up a strong (loud) heartbeat. It was fast, like it was at the scan. But by this time my heart was really racing, and it felt to me that it was as fast as the amplification through the doppler.

Please reassure me that the mw couldn't have mistaken my heartbeat for the baby? Am I being daft?! I realise she knows what she's doing and where to look. And I know baby's heart rate is much faster than mine, but my pulse was racing. Thank you

It will be babies, don't panic. :)

Your Hb won't be about 150!

Well, even your racing heartbeat shouldn't be as fast as the baby's.

My midwife always took my pulse alongside listening to be super sure.

I get palpitations so it can be very fast. Hmm, don't know what to think.

The (very) experienced midwife did mistake my heartbeat for DD2's at 37 weeks.

Should add (to reassure you) there was a reason that mine was high, and she thought DD2's was sluggish... it so unlikely in your case though, so unlikely.

Im sure she would have been listening very carefully to how many bpm the sound was. So she will be sure it wasnt yours chuck :) x

Pretty sure she will have found babies hb, but if you are worrying, then ask to be seen & get checked!

That is the only thing that will put your mind at rest!

If it sounded like galloping horses it was most likely the baby. Did you have your bp and pulse taken at the same time? Maybe look at your notes to see or as suggested get another check to put your mind at rest x
