Hi

I'm 36 weeks now and I've been having palpitations since the very start but for the last 2 months they have been a lot more frequent.

I know palpitations are normal because your heart has to work harder during pregnancy but how frequently is too frequent?

I'm lucky if I have it 4 times a day but usually its a lot more.

It's a horrible feeling and I know I don't have long to go but I worry about it which doesn't help obviously :)

Anyway I'll stop rambling now. Can anyone help?

Amy x

I guess you've had them checked out by GP or similar? I used to get palpitations and they are annoying. Make sure you're hydrated and not overdoing the caffeine is the general advice I've been given. Though if they are getting worse it might be worth while popping back for a check over?

I've had them in 2 pregnancies. I went to the GP who said if there's no pain then nothing to worry about. They disappeared as soon as I'd had the baby. Always worthwhile speaking to your own GP though.

My palpitations were made worse by having a low iron level. Definitely worth getting checked out just in case.

I have had palpitations a lot in the early weeks and found deep breathing techniques for anxiety helps reduce the intensity.

Do get it checked if you haven't already. I had palpitations when 23 and docs found I had an in diagnosed hole in my heart. Sure you're fine but better to be safe than sorry. X

I would second pushing to be checked out further. I had palpatations all the way through my second pregnancy & was fobbed off repeatedly by my midwife that it was normal, despite not experiencing them during my first pregnancy. It was only when I needed her to put her opinion in writing, as I needed a 'fit to fly' letter, was I sent for an ECG.
Turned out I had an undiagnosed arrhythmia, Supra Ventricular Tachycardia. Not a major issue in the end, but did need to be appropriately managed during the birth. My cardiologist told me with SVT it is often pregnancy that triggers the first symptoms in women. He has no idea why my first pregnancy didn't elicit any symptoms though.
Hope it settles down for you soon, whatever it turns out to be. Horrible sensation to have to deal with at the best of times.
