Small pregnancy vitamins!

Does any one know of any reasonably sized pregnancy vitamins? All the ones I've tried are like bullets and I can't swallow them Confused
Normal multivitamins are usually quite small, so no idea why the pregnancy ones are so big, it's like they're just showing off how much they've packed into them Hmm
Has anyone encountered any small pill sized ones? I don't mind ordering off the net and paying a bit for them.

I can't take tablets either - the pregnancy ones are just a joke! This may not help much but there is such a thing as pregnancy vitamin drops. I came across them in early pregnancy, didn't have my purse on me and have never been able to find them again. I'm convinced they were from Sainsbury's or possibly boots but as I say have not seen them since. (Am positive I didn't dream this up). Maybe trying googling for them.
Iv read on here (in my search to find the drops again) that Holland and Barrett's make some up or do some kind of a liquid form. I'm now almost 34 weeks and have forgotten about vitamins but may be worth a try.

Ps
A) I am aware my post makes me sound like a but Job

B) if you ever do come across them please PM me so I know I wasn't hallucinating

hartmel · 09/06/2014 03:54

I don't know of any smaller sized pills but I agree that they are huge. Grin And also make me constipated. In early pregnancy I'm always constipated but noticed with taking the pills it is worse. So I'm now 20 weeks with dc2 and didn't take any:. Just ate a lot of fruits and vegetables and all the other stuff to boost up my vitamins. And so far I only have problem with my vitamin D..

redcaryellowcar · 09/06/2014 04:25

Boots do a folio acid with vit d which is a lot smaller, or Holland and barratt do something called floradix which is liquid, but apparently has an unpleasant odour, same is available in tablets but i have not found them so not sure how big they are. Not sure Holland and barratt stock floradix tablets but our local health food shop does? I had pregnancy sickness (not just in the morning) and couldn't eat much or properly and couldn't swallow a big tablet the small boots ones were fine, them and jacket potatoes produced a healthy 9lb4 oz baby!!

redcaryellowcar · 09/06/2014 04:27

Sorry for typos i m on my phone so tricky to check back. Should read folic acid not folio!

MrsMonkeyBear · 09/06/2014 04:27

I agree on the massive size of them. I gave up and took separate folic acid, iron and vitamin d tablets instead. I ended up getting a liquid iron supplement as the tablets gave me a iffy tummy.

The little munchkin that kicked me awake at 3am seems to have coped without the other stuff.

CrystalClaire · 09/06/2014 06:46

I have had trouble too with the size, spoke to the pharmacist at boots and i am taking their folic acid/vit d in one tablets and they are TINY thank goodness. For iron there is Spa Tone also from boots which is iron in water sachets. Hope it helps :-)

Foxeym · 09/06/2014 06:59

In boots there are some tablets that are called seven seas trying for a baby, they are tiny, like the pill and have practically the same ingredients in them. I took them all the way through as my midwife said they were just as good. Boots quite often do 2for3 on their vits as well

CorporeSarnie · 09/06/2014 07:17

Wilko pregnancy vitamins are small, cheap (I think they do 3 for 2) and have the same ingredients as pregnancy multivitamins.
It's usually the omega supplements which are enormous, if your diet includes oily fish these aren't necessary.

CoolCat2014 · 09/06/2014 07:18

I've been taking santogen mum to be, as they are a bit smaller than others I've tried. The seven seas pregnancy ones made me gag :(

Angelto5 · 09/06/2014 07:25

I found the preg pills huge too.think I used to buy the asda ones. The only way I could take them was by breaking them in half.

Nessalina · 09/06/2014 07:51

Thanks all Smile
I've been taking the Boots Vit D + folic acid, but I don't have the most amazing diet, so felt like I'd like to take a broader vitamin. Whilst we were TTC I was on the Seven Seas Trying For a Baby which were great, but they don't have enough vit D in for pregnancy, so I started on extra vit D, then I was worried I was getting too much, lol. Can you get too much vitamin D?!
I might go back to the Seven Seas plus Boots Vit D & folic acid. Or being as it's summer I can maybe get away with being a little short on Vit D and just get some sunshine at lunch time Smile

I was just so annoyed when having been taking Seven Seas Trying vitamins, I bought the Pregnancy ones and they're literally 6 times bigger!!! Don't they know we have an increased gag reflex?!

NHS Healthy Start vitamins in pregnancy. 34p per pack of 56. Available from your pharmacy.

squizita · 09/06/2014 08:08

Sanatogen come in a jar and seem slightly smaller: deffo smaller than pregnacare. I also break mine in half and swallow them in 2 goes.

squizita · 09/06/2014 08:11

www.sanatogenpregnancy.co.uk/en/sanatogen-pregnancy-range/sanatogen-mum-to-be/ Jar looks like this, also less constipating than some others.

happypotamus · 09/06/2014 09:26

I have had to give up my search for pregnancy vitamins that are small enough to swallow too. I have to break paracetamol in half to swallow it and all the vitamins I found were huge and unbreakable. I am taking folic acid as I have to take a higher dose due to a medical condition. I wanted to just buy kids' vitamins that are like sweets instead, but I realised they all had vitamin A in. I didn't take extra vitamins when pregnant with DD1 either for the same reason, and she has turned out ok so far.

StrawberryCheese · 09/06/2014 09:33

Floradix tablets are quite small, similar to circular paracetamol tablets. The liquid is actually quite nice, I don't think it smells bad but I wasn't pregnant when taking it.

CursiveLetters · 09/06/2014 11:34

I take the neil's yard kind, they are standard sized. (Not super tiny but definitely not big.) If you just need folic acid you can take a teeny tiny pill with that alone.

Sussex31 · 09/06/2014 11:55

The Boots folic acid + vitamin D pills are teeny tiny and good value too. I would definitely recommend.

Sussex31 · 09/06/2014 11:57

Oh just read thread properly and seen your second post. Oops :)

ChicaMomma · 09/06/2014 11:59

I hated pregnacare (they made me itch) so now i take, separately:

-Vit D3 (these are tiny)

  • Magnesium (these are also tiny and help with sleeping)
  • B vits (the Superdrug ones are tiny!)
  • Iron every second day (ferrograd C, not so tiny but i am low in iron)

You dont need Folic ACid after 12 weeks btw.

Failing all of that, you can get some that come in plastic capsules that you can pull apart and can be put on breakfast cereal.. i have them at home, will check the brand for you if you like. I am an awful pill popper!!

Scotmum83 · 09/06/2014 17:42

I struggle with them too but have managed to swallow them with a big spoonful of yogurt. I'm taking centrum ones which aren't as big as some others.

MrsCK · 09/06/2014 18:40

How about these: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005P0UZ4Q?cache=ad7097b0c4e277491f5097b632613467&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&qid=1402335544&sr=8-4#ref=mp_s_a_1_4

prenatal liquid vitamins. I'm definitely going to try them!!

HeyDiddleDoodle · 14/10/2015 21:30

For the sake of any others with a similar problem... I spent a while examining vitamins of various kinds in Boots today. I'm one of those awkward patients who can't swallow pills, you see. There was:

Pregnacare liquid, about £8 for 20 days I think. Kind of expensive...

Boots Pharmaceuticals RE-ENERGISE- soluble tablets (think Redoxon or Berocca), in various fruity flavours, with the right level of folic acid plus some other vitamins. Not pregnancy specific, but doesn't contain vitamin A. No Vitamin D, so you'd need to get this separately. £3.99 for 20, good for 20 days.

Boots Pharmaceuticals Vitamin D Gummies, blackcurrant flavour. £3.99 for 30, but they have 2.5 times the level needed so I plan to have half per day. Again, not pregnancy specific but I checked with the pharmacist and they're ok for pregnancy :).

My local Lloyds pharmacy also sells basic vitamin D with calcium in a crunchable tablet, £1.99 for 15 days' worth.
