Hello

Just wondered if anyone else has type 1 diabetes and has gone through pregnancy here.

I just past 5 weeks (from conception) and starting to feel sick throughout the day.

I have to keep very tight control of my sugar levels so I can't reach for ginger biscuits or peppermint sweets to ward off bouts of feeling queasy. Any other suggestions? I can't face herbal teas.

It would also be very reassuring to know how other type 1 mums managed there sugar levels thoughout pregnancy - I can't help worrying if mine goes even a little high.

Hi I have non-diabetic hypoglaecemia - so not the same, but similar, iykwim?? Unfortunately, people who have problems with their sugar levels are prone to developing very bad morning sickness and possible hyperemesis I was horrendeously sick with my first for 22 weeks and then it eased off and I really enjoyed the rest of my PG. My 2nd PG was a lot better - suffered badly with sickness for two week-ish. I am now PG again (about nine weeks, so similar to you ) and sickness has been weird this time - feeling very sick 1st thing in the morning and at night - not getting much sleep

I tend to cope by eating little and often if I can - lots of carbs etc I find sugary tea helps if I am feeling super rough. Glucose tablets have been helping a little. May I also recommend sea bands for round your wrists and acupuncture - really helped me with my 1st!!

Every sympathy for you honey - It is worth it!! [hugs]]

Hopefully someone with Type 1 will come a long to advise you more expertly soon - Bump!!

I have type 1 and have gone through 2 pregnancies. Was lucky with DS in that so long as i didn't go low i didn't feel sick but with DD felt sick around the clock! I found hula hoops and salt & vinegar crisps helped make it bearable. Started to feel better at about 11 weeks.

Are you on insulin 4 times a day?

Many hanks for your advice - I'll definitely try the travel bands on my wrists (they used to work for me years ago when I got seasick so hopefully they will do the trick again).

Funnily enough I scoffed a packet of salt and vinegar crisps earlier and felt grand - there must be something in them

I'm on insulin 4 times a day and my control has been good (though my sugar level sometimes goes above 7 two hours after eating - it's hard keeping it in the tight bracket that's
recommended!).

It's great to know taht you both had successful pregnancies (despite the bother of sickness).

I live abroad in the Middle East at the minute, though I'll be giving birth at home in the UK - I really appreaciate being able to ask for your advice when I don't have my nearest and dearest around me (even though dh is great).
