Hello all. I just wanted to check whether it's true that 50% of pregnant woman actually have pgp.
I am 20+5 weeks pregnant. I had a really bad back pain on the left side affecting the left buttock and hip joint. I thought I'd slept wrong as I struggled to walk and found sitting uncomfortable. I went to Pilates and just so happened to be be checked by the physio who happens to be mil. Can't actually believe she did something that lasted a minute and didn't hurt which made the pain and discomfort go away completely the next day. I've been fine for a few weeks now until I did a coach trip to Scotland (bad idea) and came back. I went to bed tried to walk to the loo and something clicked in my left hip area and I could hardly walk again. Lying down in bed was excruciating. I went to see my mum in law again and once again she fixed me. She did something that felt like a message and whatever moved went back into place. I knew my pelvis had moved but I didn't realise I had pelvic girdle pain till yesterday when she told me.
I have to say itv been very lucky to have her as she is a woman's health specialist with a special interest in this area. She also gave me a dream genii pillow to use which I've been using now for over 2 months. This is brilliant. I've read loads on pgp and it seems like we are just told to put up with as it's part of pregnancy, don't. Please see a physio quickly if you have this problem and get those lovely pillows to help you sleep comfortably.

Saw my physio for the first time on Friday and she gave me 3 exercises to do that have eased my PGP instantly.

With me it was something to do with a misalignment of one of my lower vertebrae that was causing my pelvis to tilt in the wrong way.

Hi mrs monkey bear. I really feel for those women who have had this for ages.
My mil said as I'm flexible/ bendy that's why it happened!

Mrs MonkeyBear would love for you to share those exercises! I'm 29+5 I have severe PGP again this pregnancy for which I am receiving specialised physio (also have a misaligned pelvis). The physio is helping me to stay mobile but I still need a walking aid and medication to get through each day. I have some exercises but they don't ease anything instantly so I am really interested in your exercises!

I was diagnosed with this at 19 weeks and referred for physio. I'd been suffering hip pain since 8 weeks and had mentioned it to a GP and told it's normal and part of pregnancy - it just went downhill. When I got to physio I told her this and she said it was the start of PGP and should have been referred then.
I hate this attitude that pain is to be expected with pregnancy - pain should never be expected and ignored! It's a sign from our body that something isn't right.
Regular physio, a back support and paracetamol has helped me keep some mobility, but I struggle more and more every day. Just counting down the days till I stop work and cant start to follow physio's instructions to rest!
You are very lucky to have your mil - I wish someone could fix me that well! While I appreciate my physio - she has only given me exercises which don't seem to help that much.

mow

I'm struggling to find them online so you can have clear instructions. The best out of the 3 I found though is called the clam. Just google Clam Exercise. It's very hard to explain the other 2 without knowing what they are called. (Bloody baby brain)

The muscle I'm working on is called the gluteus medius so have a look for exercises for them.

Oh yes I remember the clam! My physio won't let me do that one, the pain just goes right through the roof this time around. I'll look up gluteus medius, I think I know what it is as it's the area my physio tends to concentrate on and it's like I'm on fire when she touches it!
