Any way of speeding up contractions/latent phase? Please help.

It's been at least 26 hours now and I'm fed up. I was seen in hospital twice yesterday, about nine hours apart, and I'd made no progress at all from 3cm dilated and 100% effaced. The midwives have 'reassured' me that things should be fairly quick once they get going properly as DD's head is extremely low down. The problem is, my contractions aren't regular at all and seem to be very much affected by what I'm doing: we've tried going out for a walk, and that really gets them going: both times, by the time we've got back, they've been painful and lasting 1-2mins with only a 45 second gap inbetween. When I'm just in the house and not moving so much, they steady off and lose their regularity.

I got woken up by them somewhere between 0200 and 0230 this morning, and they kept me awake for three hours until I took some codeine to allow me to sleep - absolutely knackered after yesterday. Since I've been up - only an hour or so tbf, they've been roughly every 5mins, but not bad at all; the background cramp is worse. I dunno what to do! It's exhausting and I just want things to get going and get my baby here Sad I'm worried about being too tired to push if this keeps on going. Can anyone help? Is there any way of speeding up the contractions?

Yes to everything Hazchem said.

Rest and sleep if and when you can. Maybe spend some time on all fours, or kneeling forward over a birth ball if you can. Apparently one of the biggest causes of a long latent stage is malpositions, and the little tinkers can move themselves even between appointments, so even if it was perfect earlier it may not be now. It also makes you feel like you are doing something!

Also, some women seem to need dark, quiet, calm to get going. I seem to. Snuggling down with a DVD in the dark, maybe some candles, glass of wine, back massage...

Funnily enough, Hazchem, the hospital midwife confirmed I was in labour on Wednesday. She said she expected me to have DD that night Sad Clearly she was wrong as well!

Going for a warm shower now before bed. I've spent pretty much all day either walking, doing housework, wiggling my hips around in funny positions, having back rubs off DP, or bouncing on the ball. Doesn't seem to be doing me much good so far, but if the last two nights are anything to go by, I'll get woken up by contractions between 0200 and 0300 Hmm Please let them go somewhere this time!

Is there a point at which the HCPs will say enough is enough and do something?? Mine haven't even been stop-start I wouldn't say (though I'm sure that's awful enough, Drama - they've been constantly there, just varying in frequency and intensity and getting me nowhere further forward! Bloody frustrating! We thought - as did the hospital midwife - that I was going to have our baby on Wed/Thurs and it's now Saturday! Sad

You are further forward. The amount of time to get to say 4cms bears no resemblance of how long it will take to get to 6 or 8 or 10. Every single contraction you are having now is one step closer to having your baby. It's frustrating and tiring and not how labour is talked about but it really is part of it. It's not a warm up it is labour it's just slow.

this is a cheery latent phase thread I might also suggest that baking cervix might help move a labour along. Comedy gold I am or a complete wierdo
