Hi
Im 34 weeks pregnant and moving house. We are very lucky and have just been given a council house, due to my ds being disabled and needing adaptions after private renting for 6 years. My questions are, is it safe/advisable to clean/scrub/ use chemicals etc as the place needs a deep clean. The housing officer told me 20 skips of rubbish were taken out and it was like something from hoarders. Also I noticed in each room was mice poison, so I don't know if there was mice previously, would this harm a newborn baby and what can I do about it? Also is it safe to breathe in paint fumes as each wall in each room is a different colour and bright blues/purples/orange etc? Having a c section in 2 weeks so need to get as much done as possible before!!!
Thanks

Some chemicals used to make me dizzy even when I wasn't pregnant... I would let other people do it for you hunny. You may well want to see if you can afford for someone to come and professionally clean your carpets. Do you have friends/family who can help you?

Alternatively, you could use natural products but I don't know if they'd be effective if the place is that dirty. (Steam cleaner, white vinegar, etc)

I don't know anything about council housing but couldn't they have someone professionally clean your house?

Iv looked into professional cleaners and think I may have to go down that route, as my tenancy in my old place ends 3 days after I get my keys, so I only have 3 days to move unless I pay another £800 which I cant really afford on top of all the other moving expenses and a baby! Hubby will be moving all the stuff and my dad will be helping him and my mum having ds- fingers crossed it all goes to plan. The house is the dirtiest house I have ever been in tbh- I am so grateful to get it as it is like gold dust where I live and they don't even accept people onto the waiting list anymore unless where u live is dangerous (because ur disabled or something else serious) or ur homeless, and don't think the council will pay to get it cleaned- just a lot to take on being pregnant and hubby works long hours and cant get any more than 2 days off work at such short notice- so stressful but sure it will be worth it.

Yes it's stressful! It's bad enough to move but when you move to a dirty house AND pregnant, I think you'd be wise to hire someone if you can.

And open the windows really wide to get rid of the chemicals.

Good luck to you. At least now you have a proper place for your DS and future baby Smile

Get professional cleaners in. They will have products & steamers to get rid of the grime. Usually they charge £100 to £200 depending on the size of the house. You can ask for specific deep cleaning with regard to mice etc.

Considering your pregnancy it's more important to live in a clean, mould-free, mice-free, paint-fume-free house than to save the £800. In any case you can't do much once the baby arrives.

But am sure if you schedule carefully you can use the 3 days to get the cleaning + painting + moving done. Then you can peacefully have your baby instead of worrying about the cleanliness aspect!

Def get the professionals in to do the cleaning and save your energies for making it feel like home! We moved when I was 38 weeks with DS1 (a week before my CS was booked) and I decorated 3 rooms in that time..... I went into nesting overdrive!!
