Hi is it normal to feel hungry - more so than usual? I'm about 6 weeks x

My god yes! Painful ravenous hunger! Just eat when you need to. Never go anywhere without emergency food. Plan plan plan!

I suffered with this in 3 pregnancies so am very passionate! Try and stick to healthy foods though.

petitverdot · 30/05/2014 16:00

I went through this big time during the first trimester! Absolutely ravenous to the point of feeling faint, and it would come on all of a sudden at work. I truly believe I would have scavenged in bins had I not had food available! Never had any sickness though, so think this was just my body's version of it

Pregnantagain7 · 30/05/2014 16:01

I didn't stop eating between weeks 6 and 13. All the time! And not always healthy lots of ice pops,s and v crisps, and chicken chow mein! Just go with it, it will settle down. Kind of! :)

thatstoast · 30/05/2014 16:06

When I was pregnant I ate a whole ten inch pizza...and then a second ten inch pizza. Not my proudest moment!

ChicaMomma · 30/05/2014 16:13

i'm 37 weeks and the INCESSANT hunger has never left me.. not for a single day. Up almost 3 stone- but hey ho, the baby is doing brilliantly and i can lose it again. Plus i've had a dream pregnancy, no nausea, no heartburn, nothing. I think part of this is down to having a good healhty appetite and eating plenty of nutritious food (and plenty of rubbish too!)

I swore i'd cap the weight gain at 2 stone, but that all goes out the window when you're already up 1 in the first trimester lol!

FTMK · 30/05/2014 16:16

Yes. I was throughout the first trimester. To the point of waking up in the night and having to eat at least 2 biscuits and if that didn't cut it, a bowl of cereal. If I didn't eat I would start gipping and retching (nice) and even on a couple of occasions throwing up first thing because felt so hungry. Had to eat something at least every 2 hours or so. Am now at 15 weeks and it's better than it was - still sometimes in the morning and late afternoon and have to eat or feel awful. On the plus side I've only put on a pound although I was at top end of healthy BMI before hand.

Oh yes and it was mostly rubbish I fancied - crisps, carbs, sweets. That's also gone away in the last week or so and I am eating more sensibly. Good luck.

Noappointmentnecessary · 30/05/2014 16:42

What is good to snack on - I need to stock up on loads of snacks for work next week. Thatstoast u make me laugh re; the pizza! Lol

I asked my GP the same question: she said it was normal but not to give in with junk food. She suggested little snacks, as healthy as possible: hummus, fruits (not together of course, hehe), etc.

Now I can't seem to keep anything down but I'm still hungry...

FTMK · 30/05/2014 16:51

I had cereal / breakfast bars plus apples for work. I also made sure I ate slightly more at lunchtime - e.g. Instead of just soup, I'd have a roll as well. At home it was less healthy - crisps, cheese, ice lollies!

Noappointmentnecessary · 30/05/2014 19:19

Thanks guys. I have one long food shop list!!

I was hungry ALL of the time in the first trimester and ate what I wanted (mostly starchy things to stop me feeling sick, especially breakfast cereal which I wouldnt normally touch!) and only gained 4lbs (made up for that now!) so I guess I was using it all. As far as I'm concerned the 'only 200 extra cals in the third trimester' thing is a load of rubbish!

Lozmatoz · 30/05/2014 21:53

Love the pizza reference!

I had bananas, malt loaf, nuts, seeds and dried fruit, crumpets, tea cakes, sliced cheese and apple, cereal bars, anything I could get my mits on.

I had zero appetite I got hungry but couldn't eat a lot at once it was a case where I had to eat little and often but it was mainly cereal or banana on toast lol. I had to eat in the mornings literally within minutes if waking up or would be retching to the point I thought I was going to be sick haha. I'm 16 weeks now and back to normal eating ish. Still put off by loads and haven't got much of an appetite and craving cucumber and cheesy Doritos!?

HulaHoop12 · 31/05/2014 09:07

Yes - i can't go for longer than two hours without eating or I feel like the hungriest woman on the planet. Have been the same since about 5 weeks. I was much more of a grazer before but now I need three square meals and snacks (and midnight cereal - oops). I feel great on it and bump has no complaints! Enjoy Smile

Scoobsmam13 · 31/05/2014 19:00

So pleased to hear I am not the only wee small hours cereal devourer! How comes it tastes so good at 3am? Really hoping it calms down after the first trimester, put on almost 5 stone with DC1 Blush

RetroHippy · 01/06/2014 07:16

Oh my word, I have just hit 6 weeks and I have been STARVING ever since I found out I was pg. Massively craving protein here; cold Sausages and chicken legs rock my world. And those little healthy gut bacteria yoghurts for a quick fix in the morning. And cereal mid-afternoon. And basically ALL the food... I need to up my water intake though. SIL was round yesterday; she kept feeding my biscuits and nectarines and making me drink a glass of water every half hour. I want to take her to work with me Grin

Noappointmentnecessary · 01/06/2014 13:11

I just did a good shop with consisted of starchy goods to keep me going. I'm not eating for enjoyment, I'm eating to get by. I want to cry because I love food. The supermarket was torture - all that food and I just want to throw up!!

So sorry to hear that NoApt...things that got me through the MS were: S&v crisps, ice lollies, Polos got me through the commute, cream crackers also good. Ooh and yoghurt - any flavour. Still addicted to yog actually although Mars Ice Cream have replaced the lollies (oops again). Fingers crossed the MS goes away soon.

Scoobs - yes midnight cereal is the best! Grin

Passthecake30 · 01/06/2014 14:18

I was a glutton. Breakfast, 2nd breakfast, lunch (a whole baguette and a whole pack of cheapo ham) , afternoon snack, dinner, porridge for pudding, toast before bed

Put on over 3 stone with each and it all disappeared. I am thin with a high metabolism. My friends said that they didn't have this hunger. ..so am pleased it wasn't just me!

Passthecake30 · 01/06/2014 14:19

Oh and the breast feeding hunger was something else!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/06/2014 09:59

passthecake your name has made me ??. Oh yes, bfing hunger is a step up from pg hunger. During pg I ate chocolate like I'd never be able to have it again. Whilst bfing it was mainly cake Smile

Passthecake30 · 02/06/2014 21:28

Oh yes. ..apparently jam doughnuts increase milk flow scientific fact
