hi.i have a question, google has made my mind go haywire on this. i actually had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks 4 days. It showed one gestational sac, a heart flicker and fetal age corresponding to 6 weeks. is there any possibility of twins? oh i sooooo adore twins! would love to have a normal and healthy pair! but are my chances bleak??
by the way i do have a good family history of twins.

From what little I know it's possible but statistically not common.

1 sac would mean identical twins, can you go and have a private scan? I was told at 10 weeks that I was having identical twins luckily they each had their own sac but shared a placenta, one sac is much higher risk.

If there were twins they would most likely have seen both heartbeats already. It is highly unlikely once you have had a scan showing one baby for a second to appear but it is not totally impossible. However twins sharing a sac makes for a much more complicated pregnancy so if I were you I wouldn't be wishing for it!

I had my first scan at 6/7 weeks and only one heartbeat was detected. Went back for my 12 week scan and found out I was having identical twins! It is possible. I'm still shocked by it 9 years on Wink

And like Filopastry mine had 2 sac's, one placenta. To share a sac makes a high risk pregnancy even more high risk.
