Hi all
I found out I was pregnant last week with my first, am only just over 5 weeks so very early days and very nervous, have booked a private scan at 7 weeks as don't think I could wait till 12!
What I would like to know is if anyone has had there baby privately and been covered on insurance without having complications.
Lots of my friends I know have had everything covered and I am now not able to ask how they managed this as I thought it was only if there was an issue that insurance kicked in.
My nearest NHS hospitals are not great but I am not too keen on spending 7-15k on private!!
Any advice would be warmly received

Can I suggest a fourth option. You could hire a doula to support you. My friend had one, and she said it provided her with an expert friend during the birth. The doula was the one that spoke to the midwives, and provided consistency of care and midwives listen to them more.

My friend was able to labour much longer and calmer at home knowing she was safe, then the doula advised when it was time to go to the hospital. Baby was born less than an hour after arrival at hospital and was home a few hours later.

My friend said it made her so much calmer knowing there was someone focused on her only, and who knew what she wanted as they meet a few times before the birth. The doula went home with them for a while, helped get the baby settled, did the laundry, tidied the kitchen, made some lunch and left. Basically like what you wish your mum would do!!

I think it was about £400. The doula was on standby for about 2 weeks and arrived late at night when labour started and will stay as long as needed.
