Is that what I say - have my appointment in an hour and not sure what is going to happen - DD is 3.5 so seems ages ago.

Am also scared that he is going to say that it is pointless seeing him this early as happened to me with DD.

What will he do - normal blood pressure check and what else??

Chances are he'll ask you whether you have done a home test and then tell you to book an appt with the local midwife. I doubt very much he'll do much else, TBH.

Best of luck

My doctor managed a congratulations, filled out a form and put me into the 'system' to get me seen at the hospital by a midwife. The cogs have since been turning very very slowly...

Twinkie · 25/03/2004 10:32

Just phoned them as thought pointless going up there if they are just going to tell me to book in to see the midwife and they have given me an appointment for 3 weeks time with the doctor and then the midwife.

Hoorah means I can vegitate a little longer and not have to do anything today that involves going out in the cold!!

What do they do then - blood pressure feeling tummy???

You need to see them to be booked into the system like the others say. Book a scan and let him know what hospital yuo want to give birth at. I tried to get away with just phoning, but they wanted e to make an appointment.

Can I demand a scan - I am just a bit worried after what happened with my sister, apparently what was wrong with her baby may be genetic!!

Yuck watching a thing on gender reassignment surgery on this morning and they are talking about using the sack to line the new vagina and apparently sometimes the men have hair growing inside their 'new vagina'!!!

May have to point out you are happy about it - my doc obviously couldn't tell and was loooong silence before she said 'so, what do you want me to do about it?'!

I phoned the surgery to find out the midwifes number, but had to go to GP, say "I'm pregnant" - GP says "Is this good news?" I say "Yes" then they attempt to give me the mw number - wrong number, have to find the number myself through the internet...

I love the NHS!

wobblyknicks · 25/03/2004 10:50

beety - I think that's horrible! Surely they shouldn't assume either way - they should just see how you feel about it!

I phoned my doctors was I was expecting dd and they just gave me the number for the mw so I could book myself in with her directly (or dre'tly as we say down here!)

Twinkie · 25/03/2004 10:50

Yes I do want a scan - only half of my sisters baby's brain developed and she had to have a termination at 23.5 weeks - something I don't want to have to go through - I know it is very rare and very possibly on her husbands side (his mother had 6 babies die either in utero or afterbirth) but it is there in the back of my mind and probably won't go away until I see that everything is ok.

The nice receptionist lady who helped me through my stress and depression over X2b and court case and sisters trouble was lovely to me and said oh Mrs *** I am so happy for you!!

Twinkie are you registered at no 12 near the traffic lights by any chance?

M2T · 25/03/2004 11:08

Hi Twinkie - You were right to phone the GP... I got really excited about my 1st GP appointment and my Doctor didn't even feel my tummy! I said: "I'm pregnant" she said.... when was your LMP? I told her and said Congratulations, now go book yourself an appointment with the MW for 3 wks time! Waste of time and a deep disappointment for me in my precious hormonal state.

IME they won't give you an early scan unless you've had a history of miscarrying. Won't you get one at around 12 wks anyway?

udar · 25/03/2004 11:18

When I went into the Dr, I filled out forms, she sent off the referral for the hospital to arrange the dating scan as they couldn't date using LMP and then as I was walking out the door she said 'just remember you aren't sick'.
No talk about food, exercise, or anything and of course I knew I wasn't sick.
She has been a lot better since as I'm doing shared care but I was absolutely amazed by my first appt.
I didn't have anyone talk to me about food until 10weeks, think of all the damage I could have done from 3wks to 10wks if I hadn't done my own research.
Doesn't what happen just depend on what council and NHS zone you are in to what is the procedure?

M2T · 25/03/2004 11:21

Udar - I wasn't told about food either.... what do you mean??

Twinkie · 25/03/2004 11:44

no am at woodlands not the one near the traffic lights Marina - silly live so near you but all your amenities etc are different to mine!!

Not sure they will be able to tell at early scan but want to make sure I get mine as soon as possible TBH - I think at the back of my mind that it is probably not a genetic mutation (the specialist said could be!!) but just a one off and if it is genetic is as I have said probably from her husbands side!!

Don't think I could have eaten anything that could have harmed baby - drank a few glasses of wine but have such bad indigestion already that looks unlikely that I will be doing that again!!

Anyway thanks all glad I got to stay in the warm and be all snuggly rather than have to walk up the road and be dissappointed!!

Role on the 16th - ooohhh DP will be like a cat on a hot tim roof until then!!

oliveoil · 25/03/2004 11:47

For my first doc appointment, I was 'put in the system' and she huffed when I didn't want the local hospital but the one I had dd at, only 15 min drive away ffs. Then I booked in with the midwife and she was the one that did my blood pressure and pee sample. Didn't have blood tests until I got my first hosp apppointment though.

My hosp don't offer nuchal scans (I think) didn't offer me one anyway, is that something you have to have private?

WideWebWitch · 25/03/2004 11:49

I remember seeing the dr being a complete waste of time when I was pregnant last year too. Went to see her, said "I'm pregnant" she said "see the midwives" and that was that, a complete waste of everyone's time. Mears started a good thread IIRC, will see if I can find it.

WideWebWitch · 25/03/2004 11:50

Oh, and I KNEW that was all she would do but they refused to let me see the midwives unless I'd seen the dr first. Complete load of bollocks of a system IMO

bobsmum · 25/03/2004 11:51

Before I could even get an appt with my GP, our stickybeak receptionist demanded (as always) to know exactly why I wanted an appointment. Like others, when I told her I was pregnant, the first thing she said was "Do you want to keep it?"

If I'd been 16, stressed out and traumatised and really unsure of what to do next, that comment could have pushed things in a whole different direction. Thoughtless moo.

Stick to your midwife Twinkie and demand her phone number and go through her from now on.

Twinkie · 25/03/2004 11:53

Can I pick my hospital then - St Mary's in Sidcup is nearest to me and then it is the Princess Royal at Bromley Common - think they are both dire anyway!!

DP said he would pay to go private but shuddered at the estimated cost and there was me thinking I could be on the new series of Portland Babies!!!
