9 weeks pregnant and have diahorrea

I am 9 and a half weeks pregnant and in the last few days have had really bad diahorrea which has meant I've had to go to the loo twice a day.
Is this normal and if not, will it harm my baby?
What can I do to stop it?

likely not related to the pregnancy and won't hurt the baby.
what have you been eating? do you have a tummy bug?

cath21 · 01/09/2006 18:28

Baby will be fine I'm sure, you can't pass on a tummy upset

Don't worry - I had really bad gastroenteritis for 5 days when I was in the early stages of pregnancy. I couldn't even keep water down. Everything was fine

i had this for the first few weeks of finding out. It wa each time I ate. It developed into morning sickness at about 8 weeks, and that lasted about 4 weeks.
Don't think there's much you can do, but see your GP if it gets too bad.

I had this when I was expecting Ds last year and have it again now(I'm 6 weeks pg).My midwife said it's very normal to have this or/and constipation during the early weeks,so try not to worry about it too much.Only downside is you can't take any Imodium or anything for it.hth.

DS brought the mother of all diorrhea and vomiting bugs home from nursery when I was 8/9wks with this one (currently 36 wks) - worst side effect is feeling extra knackered! - baby will be fine.

I had same problem and was told by my midwife that it's not specifically a problem related to pregnancy and that I should see GP if it lasted for weeks. She thought it was a tummy bug and was not a concern for the baby. It went away as soon as I made an appointment to see GP.

I worried about this too but midwife said it was hormones and common in early pregnancy.

Oh god I had it so badly for around 2/3 weeks in the early weeks, could't keep anything 'up', everytime I ate anything, even just white rice I had to leg it to the loo about 5 times in a row! Was so worried for the baby but was assured that it would get what it needed from me whatever! Of course by the end I had absolutely no energy!

Just eat white rice, flat soft drinks are good to get a bit of sugar in you. Once it starts to calm down add a bit of plain pan fried chicken breast to your rice and build it up gently even if you feel like you can't manage to eat any more rice!

I had this too, for a few weeks. I put it down to a combination of nerves, worrying and excitement because of my little secret! I was told it wouldn't affect bub they just take your reserves instead I think!

I'm 5 weeks and have rather an upset tummy too over the last 2 days, think anxiety may be playing a role also.
