Can anyone recommend a good post-natal tummy wrap?

Title says it all really - don't want to spend loads of money or be super corset bound ! Just want a supportive, comfortable and firm thing to wear under my clothes to help my organs go back into the right place and help with uterus going back to normal size etc. I've read they are really great and worth a go....but completely overwhelmed by options to buy online....really don't want to spend a fortune on something that's not comfortable. Pre-pregnancy I had a tiny waist and I have large hips so I was worried the wraps may roll upwards over my hips as I move around !

Any tips much appreciated !! xx

Can't help but bumping for you and watching with interest as I was thinking of getting one myself

I've been looking at the baby bandit- it's pricey but the reviews are good. Would love to know if anyone has used it. Being due in early December, I fear the baby weight plus christmas weight will just make me a big splodge come January and I want to have a plan of action to tackle it. Plus I hear the corsets are really good for posture when breast feeding and help prevent sore back.

So great post, would also love to hear other's views who have actually tried corsets.

I'm interested too. I have heard of the belly bandit but it is expensive. I wondered whether normal support shape wear would do the trick?

I was thinking about this a wee while ago, but got worried because I read reviews from HCPs saying that they actually take so much of the 'strain' off your muscles that essentially you stop using your core and so your muscles get weaker rather than stronger. I didn't like the sound of that much, so will instead try to get my figure back through exercise.

I was wondering about big hold it all in knickers, the type that come up under boobs? Also the post natal vest that have pull it in bits under the boobs??

Ill have to look into belly bands but they don't sound very comfy for everyday.

my mum recommended 'big kickers' in fact she bought me some after 1st dc but they were so ugly (flesh coloured BIG knickers) and I refused to wear them (she took them back) but in hindsight I should have worn them but eventually everything went back Smile (lots of walking/gym and swimming!!)

watching with interest.

With my first I just used a Regular back support band.. Or a big long scarf (not the stretchy ones) and wrapped it very tightly around belly.. But 98% of the time I used the back band..

I know they look ugly but I think I might look into the knicker ones that come up under your breast.. This way you don't have to pull the band down constantly because when walking it moves up..

Spanx are pretty good for post natal (the pants ones that come to just under your bra), they give you a better shape under clothes. I do very gentle pilates and other physio exercises, I find that the spanx are good because you can still feel your muscles working but you get some support.

I do believe these are a waste of money. I had DD NYE. I can assure you that you don't need one of these. You will have a jelly belly for two/three weeks but muscle memory takes over and your body will repair. DD is nearly five moths and no sign of jelly belly. It disappeared some time ago. I did however wear spanks the first few weeks if I was wearing a dress.

My advice start exercising as soon as possible and you will revert a lot quicker. My friend as one of these but did no exercise. I didn't get one but exercised. I am back to normal but my friend still complains about her tummy.

LittlePeaPod · 29/05/2014 02:33

That should e spanx not spanks. Ha ha Blush

What kind of exercise? I ask as someone who is a natural size 8 but is a failure at exercise. I don't want to be flabby! I'm accepting the washboard may not return

LittlePeaPod · 29/05/2014 11:02

Sleepy. I was a size 8/10 pre baby. I exercised before falling pregnant and through the pregnancy before HG knocked me out. I was back in my size 8/10 jeans 31 days post birth. Although my tummy was still a little wobbly but that had disappeared by 7/8 weeks post birth. Below is a list of my exercise and don't get me wrong it was hard dragging myself out to the gym when I had been up most the night with a new born. Personally it was worth it.

-spinning classes
-insanity classes (great all over body workout. Excellent for toning and burns calories like mad)

  • body attack
  • tabata core interval training
  • interval weight training, mixed in with interval cardio training

I am of the fat loss / toning school of thought rather than the weight loss school of thought. Massive difference.

Don't know about them at all. I ended up slimmer than I had been for years after my first. I put it down to breast feeding and pushing that pram everyday. Don't rush anything, give your body time.

It all depends on what state your tummy muscles are in post birth.

Every pregnancy so far my tummy muscles have separated to at least a 3/4cm gap which is a complete pain. I have to get the muscles back together again which is a lot of work, it's all gentle buy effective exercise.

Even with a lot of work every day it still takes a long time, I can lose weight/fat all I want but if my tummy isn't fixed than I will still look pregnant, all rather gutting. This time around it will be the same. Hence the spanx!
