Where to put baby in the daytime?

Had a moses basket for dd three years ago but that got adopted by the cat after she had finished using it Grin

Ive been bought a crib as a gift for this baby, due end of Oct, which I will use in the bedroom, but wondering what to do in the daytime. With dd I just carried the basket to the lounge (adjacent to the bedroom) but I dotn fancy dragging a crib through every day.

I have a bouncer and my stroller has a carrycot (maclaren xlr) but these probably wont be suitable for all sleeps.

Do I need to get a moses basket?

Fwiw I got rid of the basket the cats adopted about three months after they moved into it.

Why not see how you get on without one, and just buy if you find you need it? I've got a Moses basket in the living room and think it's been used twice as dd generally sleeps in the pram or on me!

voodoochimp · 27/05/2014 11:48

I use a carrycot, I don't understand why wouldn't this be suitable for all day time sleeps?

spottydolphin · 27/05/2014 11:50

i use the pram or bouncy chair/swing

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/05/2014 11:52

I just thought they were only suitable for sleeping if they stated it - breatheability, support etc.

You need to get a better mattress for the carrycot, one that is breathable etc and says it's suitable for overnight sleep.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/05/2014 11:59

Its not as big as a moses basket - I really dont think anywhere would do a mattress that fits it

i thinkt hat's only if you want to use it for overnight sleeping. it'll be fine for naps.
after all, your baby will nap in it if you're out using it right?

TitsCrossed · 27/05/2014 12:03

Get a travel cot? It can be used as a play pen too later on for while you are cooking/peeing/answering for etc with a mobile baby. Also useful for trips away.

The carry cots don't generally have breathable sides. One of the SIDS risk factors is lack of air flow (another eg by using cot bumpers).

TitsCrossed · 27/05/2014 12:05

And a lot of babies grow out of moses baskets quite quickly.

voodoochimp · 27/05/2014 12:12

Carrycots are fine for naps, but most aren't recommended for overnight use.

PostmanPatAlwaysRingsTwice · 27/05/2014 12:17

Ah I've just had a look at the XLR, it's a different type to my mamas and papas carrycot that I use for daytime naps with a good mattress. Looks like the XLR doesn't have a separate mattress?

Still, I think it's fine for naps while the baby fits it, same thing as a Moses basket really.

Travel cot also a good idea.

We got one of these for DD, totally brilliant - she slept in it for daytime naps, was perfectly happy chilling in it & she loved the little toys... They were the first thing she learned to bat at. DD is really long (98th centile) so she outgrew it at six months, but we sold it on for a decent amount... I was a bit iffy about spending that much but it was used solidly for about 5 months, and I was so pleased we got it - whereas she hated bouncers & swings.

Shop around for a decent price, amazon had them for £52 at one point.

Travel cots are always useful to have! I like the John Lewis and Baby bjorn one, although I'm sure other brands are good!

They tend to last until toddler years aswell! X

ruthsmumkath · 27/05/2014 13:09

I got a bassinet - it's like a small travel cot with a thick mattress as I borrowed a Moses basket with dc3 and she was in it loads but grew out of it by 12 weeks or so - this bassinet is supposed to last 6-9 months.

Hoping I get another good baby so I get my money's worth!

thinkivebeenhacked I just ordered replacement mattresses for carrycot! Moses basket, crib and cotbed (I know, everything but it was all gifts) from Here They are made to measure and reasonably cheap. Oh and best of all deliver really quickly.

Boogles91 · 27/05/2014 17:19

Were just gonna lay lil man down next to us on settee if he not in cot or pram :) my parents did that with all of us and i think it helped us develop good relationship as we got older with our parents as were a close family :) it was also easier for me mum as she new where wed all be hehe :) x

nevergoogle · 27/05/2014 17:22

We have a travel cot with basinette set up in the living room. Have never owned a crib or moses basket and have found this works well for us. Especially as it will get lots of use later on too.

MinesAPintOfTea · 27/05/2014 17:29

Settee is the worst place for sids: soft with a nice bit at the back for baby to smoother or overheat in. use a pram or Moses basket instead.

CanISayOfHerFace · 27/05/2014 17:43

We use a cocoonababy on the sofa. It also fits in DS's crib and cot.

doodledotmum · 28/05/2014 18:53

Used carry cot with both mine

BrokenStar · 28/05/2014 19:01

I used a rocker chair which was great for mine as he had reflux. It had carry handles so it was easy to move him around the house if I was showering or cooking.
