Hi so i've hit the 12 week mark and Im having my scan this Friday. Excited but nervous!

Anyway, i haven't really put on any weight so far, but my belly is huge in the evenings. I think im about to go splodge though since my diet has not exactly been great.

A lot of foods are still turning me off, like meat generally. All i can eat is Bacon or ham. I can't really do any sauces or cooked vegetables. Roast dinners are a big turn off. Salads just repeat on me, it's horrendous. I can manage a raw carrot and some tomatos/avacado and peppers but that's my limit.

I can eat bread no problem, and noodles imayor-maynot-haveeatenafewpot-noodles--. I have a major craving for those. My sil says she was exactly the same. I can eat creamy mash, you know, the really unhealthy tesco's filled with cream and butter and salt kind. I am also good with fruit and do try and get a lot of fruit in a day, subject to the fruit bowl being full, my dh is a fruit monster. What will a child be like!

Has anyone any tips on how to get back to eating a bit healthy? I feel my diet is so limited. I want to have a healthy pregnancy for both me and the baby. I want to provide lots of good nutrients but feel I am falling short and I stopped taking pregnacare multi vits a few weeks back as they were adding to my sickness. I am still taking folic acid though. My sickness has largely gone, but i really can't stomach certain foods!

Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks x

Give it a bit more time and you will start feeling more up to different foods. It was about 16 weeks for me (now 27). The hugeness on an evening is down to bloating and doesn't necessarily mean you're about to balloon, so don't worry about that. I found taking a couple of Rennies on an evening really helped with the early indigestion/bloating stage and it does pass. When you start feeling like it again, just start going back to your normal meals. In the first 16 weeks or so, I couldn't get enough of chips or pop tarts and didn't want an evening meal at all, but that phase passed and now I'm back to my regular meals and just cook normally. It's good that you're eating fruit. I've also added a daily doe of fybogel to my diet which I find helps me to avoid the too-full-to-eat-anything feeling too. Good luck on your scan!

Jacket potatoes - with whatever you can cope with. Can make it as healthy (veggie chillie for eg), or as unhealthy (100g of cheddar!) as you like/fancy that day.

I had a spate of JPs with homemade coleslaw that worked quite well.

Jacket potatoes sound like a great idea ohthegoats- i think i will try them. Im pretty sure I could stomach some chilli and cheese with them!

mssleepyhead thanks for your thoughts. I have also felt the same about evening meals. We're going round to friends tonight for dinner and its going to be a real struggle for me i just know it. However I just scoffed a load of Heinz spaghetti and toast! Praying that these next few weeks go past and as you say, I start to feel more normal again. I have just assumed that the way Im feeling now will just continue since it is a lot lot better than how I was feeling 3-4 weeks ago. It's great to know, I might even start to feel even better.

I had a noodle craving too!!! I now make my own rather than instant ones.

The way I got into eating healthy again was to do healthy snacking than full on meals. I had carrot sticks, celery and cucumber with hummus or taziki. Fruit and yogurt have been good too, I make my own yogurt with soya milk as I'm severely lactose intolerant and pile it on strawberries or something scrummy. Homemade ice lollies with real fruit juice are great for warm days or the still a bit pukey days.

I was surprised to find baked beans were reasonably healthy. only if you don't put a can of hotdogs in them

Martie I have exactly the same food likes at the moment. I only really eat bacon and ham and bread rolls and mash.. Generally potato in any form. I would like to get healthier food in but it just isn't appealing or doesn't stay down. I'm 13+2 as still continuing with vitamins as my diet has been somewhat limited and its twins. I sympathise, and don't really have much advise to offer, I'm more just curious as to the advice you receive, but found it funny that you have the same food likes.

Hi, I'm 21 weeks and still have the same food aversions!

Are you eating eggs? For a while my dinners went on a rotation of cheese and beans jacket spud, omelette with tomatoes mushrooms or peppers or any variation you can think of with eggs and tomatoes and then noodles or pasta of some sort.

At first I was fighting the nausea with fat coke and sweets but it raised my blood sugar too high my doc wants me off white carbs and sugar but it's too hard. I do eat my weekly tuna quota in a soft brown roll and I eat a lot of fruit too and often a meal is replaced with a bowl of fruit and fibre!

I made a kind of gumbo for tea tonight with brown rice loads of peppers and tomatoes and just a couple of leftover sausages that went down well and would be fairly healthy. I was overweight when I got pg. But not by loads. I've gained 3kg so far.

ohthegoats · 27/05/2014 18:46

I'm not eating eggs at all - the constipation is SO bad if I do... it's only baked beans that are keeping me 'moving' so to speak. Also, I just don't fancy them at all, urgh (I'm 22 weeks).

I'm eating a lot of fruit and cheese - apples with a slice of cheese, grapes with a slice of cheese, bowl of berries with natural yoghurt, pineapple chunks with a slice of cheese.

I am 13+5 n still nauseous day n night n can't face most foods.

Tonight I fancied meat balls n pasta so did with roasted courgettes n peppers in pasta sauce managed small bowl plain pasta n one meatball n the garlic bread high one bite n stomach said no!! Husband n toddler had a feast though

Was SAME with last pregnancy until 16wks lived on mash potato n bananas n lost alot weight this time I have tried to prevent weight loss to such extreme n have lost a little but the forcing myself to eat has helped albeit high calorie crap in small amounts

mrsnec · 27/05/2014 19:03

Feeling that! I think my bran flakes addiction is helping with the movement side of things! I can't do yoghurt but I'm concerned about my cheese consumption at times! I eat it every day without fail!

Hi Martie1

I'm 8+2 and can't keep up with my food aversions! It changes every day!

The thought of cooking bacon makes me wretch but when I smell crispy bacon I need it!! I'm a nutritional therapist and ate so healthily before but all I want for breakfast now is cornflakes and OJ.. And last night I had chicken nuggets and potato waffles... Needless to say I would never normally have that in the house! (It was good though).

I was on a low carb, grain free diet when I fell pregnant and now all I want is bread and chips!! (I'm gluten free though so can only have horrible bread!)

I used to make lots of green smoothies with spinach and kale etc but now make them with frozen banana and peanut butter... Soooo good!!

I find I'm a lot better in the evening so try and get in as many nutrients as I can. You could try a big chilli or shepherds pie maybe...? That way the meat and the veg are all sort of hidden and mushed up (yum) so no prominent flavours to turn your stomach.

But as you know... Your body knows what it needs so just go with it! Any maybe take a good prenatal supplement (from a good independent health food shop not boots) which is in an easily digestible form and unlikely to repeat.

Hope the scan goes well... Can't wait for mine! Seeing the midwife for the first time today :)

ralv · 29/05/2014 08:13

mrsnec Calcium is one of the most important nutrients you can get into your body so keep scoffing!! I was dairy free as it gives me horrible digestion but have found I'm now ok with goats cheese so shovelling it in. Nom!
