In Greece - soft cheese ravioli

Hi ladies

A little bit closing the barn door after the horse has bolted but I just had a ravioli with a feta type cheese in Greece for lunch. I'd assumed as cooked through it was ok....? Baby has been very active in our holiday and we come home today so would hate to think I've caused any problems so close to leaving... I've tried very hard to be careful... It's a family run hotel and all the food is freshly prepared and cooked by the mum plus they are very aware I'm pregnant so I'm sure it'll be ok. Sorry just need a little reassurance I've not made a whopping mistake....

yes if it is cooked it is fine. It may have been pasteurised feta which would have been ok anyway.

It may also have been made with Anari which is like ricotta so that would be safe probably too. I wouldn't worry.

It wasn't feta exactly, it was a feta type local cheese. I'm not sure it's ever pasteurised in Greece....?

but regardless, if it was cooked it will be fine anyway

If it helps, I'm in cyprus and I'm 21 week's. I've been eating halloumi made by my neighbour in her shed! I do cook it though. I think you should be fine you're not eating it raw as such.

squizita · 26/05/2014 14:33

It's fine if it's been boiled with the pasta, as I understand it?

porcito · 26/05/2014 15:31

I understood the same, squizita. I'm in Mexico where my MIL has some kind of borderline obsession with soft cheese. I only realised after a few weeks that it wasn't pasteurized. It's one of those things that it's best to avoid, but if you had one meal, the chances of you getting sick are so so small even IF the heating it didn't kill anything bad (which I think it does).

I have THE worst stomach in the world, and after at least 2 months of eating this cheese, I've been fine and baby is healthy.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Thanks ladies. As it turns out I ended up with a far bigger problem. I sprained my ankle really reay badly 3 hours before flight. Debated dvt socks, have worn them and now just hoping all ok. May need an X-ray but not even sure am allowed but there was a massive crack when I went over on it.... Cheese seems a distant concern now :-/

Ouch! poor you! Hope it's nothing too serious! (I think if there's any concern it's broken they do X Rays, just with the lead vest over you to stop any of the radiation getting to baby, even though it's a small amount.)

Thanks porcito sadly I have to go for an x-ray as doctor thinks it's fractured Sad
