I am hoping to have exciting news after my 12 week scan next week but my next dilemma is how do I tell work and my boss. This is not going to be well received at all. Want to be excited but this is praying on my mind. Any advice?

What is it that is worrying you? What's the situation that makes you think they won't react well? Remember you have the law on your side whatever happens and they have to be very careful once they know you're pregnant.

I'm only 5+1 but already worrying about telling work as well as I only started the job 4 weeks ago. I just keep remembering that the law will be on my side!

Depends what sort of environment you work in. If you want to be formal out it all in writing. Our policy asks for due dates, when you intend to start mat leave and how long you intend to take. They also want to make sure my working environment is safe in pregnancy.

Why don't young think it will be received well. I was in the same situation. I was actually terrified. I told a lesser manager first and she made sure there was a good time to tell the top manager and let me know when that was.

No matter how much everyone hated it they had to be nice about it Grin

I was really scared about this. I had to tell work early due to the nature of my job, I had only been there a few months. I started off telling my superior, then had her with me when I told the manager. They were actually really good about it! Didn't react the way I expected at all. I'm glad I told them when I did as the next week I had some bleeding and had to leave work. At least they already knew. I didn't tell anyone else at work until after my 12 week scan though.
They cannot discriminate against you because of the pregnancy though.

I just said it matter of factly, and I could tell she was surprised and not at all impressed, but that was tough.I was glad I tackled it head on as I had a 'threatened miscarriage' and had to take time off (all turned out ok).Just remember that you are doing nothing wrong. My boss was actually quite unpleasant about it unfortunately and said some quite inappropriate things, but I was so happy about being pregnant that she couldn't say anything to bother me.

It was harder telling her the second time round when I was pregnant again just 9 months later.....

Don't worry about it.

You stay calm and focussed on your pregnancy, and know that the law is on your side, and any reasonable person too.
