Ante natal care at St Mary's - 13 weeks with no appointments/tests yet??

I'm not sure whether I am unusual but.....I'm almost 13 weeks pregnant and haven't seen a midwife let alone been offered one of - what seem to be standard - tests??
In terms of a little more background...luckily (?!) I've been at the RMC at St Mary's, due to a partial molar and other miscarriages. (During which they indentified an inherited Blood disorder, factor five leiden). Which has meant that i have had scans every two weeks to check for a heart beat, which is why I know that I am indeed 13 weeks tomorrow and that the baby is alive. They have now discharged me.
However, despite two referrals from my GP (the second one after I mentioned I had heard nothing from St Mary's) and now two (the second only this week) from the RMC to the antenatal clinic at Paddington all I have had is a letter asking me to attend at midwife appointment which arrived at the end of last week requesting that I attend in Shepherds Bush, this Wednesday (I would have been 12wks5). It was for the same day and time that I had a long standing final scan at the RMC. I called daily and wrote emails but never got through to the right department on the phone to request a different date (the admin department can't change bookings) and the emails were never answered. I am due to go away for two weeks from next week and will miss the window for a nuchal scan as a result. I have still heard nothing about a first midwife meeting.
Is this normal? In a way it's quite relaxing having no intervention what so ever, other than to know the baby is alive, but mainly it is terrifying to have had no guidance or testing. this is a first pregnancy and I am an older mother (37) with the complications/history above..

Hi! I am also (almost) 13 weeks and under the care of St Mary's too.

I know you've been having regular scans, but have you had a nuchal scan? ie the scan that checks the organs/nuchal translucency? Have you had the blood test for Downs Syndrome?

I have had the above but have not seen a midwife yet...

Hi Hedgehead, That's interesting re the midwife appointment. I thought they were meant to happen a lot earlier! No, no offer of blood tests or anything for the nuchal tests. I had thought the RMC would do these last week given the timing. (When I set up the appointment i asked what would be covered and the admin said they didn't know but would send a letter, they never did).
When did they do these tests for you?
I've now given up on them and luckily found the FMC on Harley Street and will get the scans I need there until, and if, the NHS get me on their radar.
Am i missing anything with the lack of midwife interaction at this stage? Hopefully not!

Hi Megly

When I found out I was pregnant the first time my GP sent a referral letter to St Mary's, but I never heard from them. I ended up going privately at the Lindo (our international insurance policy covered it), so I didn't follow it up. It seems like their admin system is really bad...

I think you need to seriously chase them and maybe lodge a complaint through the hospital or your GP. Even if you get hold of them now, I highly doubt they will fit you in for the nuchal scan in time.

If you are happy to pay for a nuchal scan at the FMC (they are great btw), then I would definitely do that. They also do the Harmony Test at a very competitive price - worth looking into.

I am pregnant again now and was referred to Chelsea & Westminster this time (I've moved areas since having baby #1) . I went to the GP very early on, as soon as I found out I was pregnant, but I didn't hear anything from C&W until about 11 weeks. By that stage I had already decided to go to a private obstetrician again. I find it crazy that they take so long to get in touch and wonder whether I would have missed the nuchal window had I waited for the NHS...

Good luck - I hope you get a response and get it all sorted out!
