No pattern to fetal movements

Hi, I am nearly 29 weeks pregnant and have been told that I need to monitor patterns of fetal movement and any changes to this pattern such as decrease in movement or intensity requires further investigation do need to alert midwife/maternity assessment unit. However, I do not seem to have a typical pattern of activity and it varies wildly from one day to the next. I have been into the MAU twice already when felt no movement or very little during day and then baby kicked off as soon as I arrived at the MAU. Everything was fine each time. But there is no particular times of activity and sometimes most activity can be in evening, other times in morning, other times spread throughout the day. Going slightly crazy trying to monitor changes in activity as a result. Anyone have the same experience and if so how did you deal with it? I really don't want to be going to the MAU every other day !!

I made a similar post yesterday, il be 30wks on Saturday and I'm finding it difficult too! My boy is always active at night and only sometimes in the am/during the day. I was panicking today as I didn't feel him as much but I listened to his heartbeat on the Doppler thingy I bought and all was good!
I find teasing the bump, playing music or talking to him sometimes works. Others have suggested drinking a cold drink, lay on ur left side and count atleast 10 movements over an hr/2hrs.... It doesn't matter how many times you go there honey! It's your baby and you are just making sure he/she is safe and well!! X

Be ever so careful with using a doppler for reassurance - I think they are fine but if you don't feel movement still go and get checked out.

I'm 33 weeks- there isn't a particular pattern I've noticed/had time to notice, however whenever I sit down and rest baby kicks lots. If I got home from work and baby wasn't I would drink cold/fizzy drink and lie on side for at least half hour before worrying and thinking about ringing hospital? Worth a try! Good luck is tricky but you are better safe than sorry!

36 weeks and still no pattern (although I have a anterior placenta so maybe that's a reason).
If worried for any reason at all, call the midwife. They want you to!
When I think that I've had a "quiet" day, I have a very cold drink and a tummy jiggle, that generally gets her going.
Remember that LO might be very active at night when you are asleep or when you are active/distracted so that there might be more movement than you think.

Please don't ever take reassurance from a Doppler. They're just toys.

Have you considered that the pattern may not be over 24 hours? Both my LOs elected to go for two days of sporadic, small movements followed by two days of wiggling like an octopus all day.

Maybe try looking at the movements over a few days and note down the time since last movement rather than the time of day, as your LO doesn't have a clock to work by inside you. Might help build up a pattern you can follow. :)

I'm 36 weeks and couldn't say if there's a pattern or not. What i do know is that he's moving about fairly regularly so that keeps me happy. Who has time in their lives to be counting the number of kicks in an hour multiple times a day??! And what constitutes a kick or movement anyhow? Some are strong...some faint..some multiple! Too confusing to worry about if u ask me!

I never noticed a pattern with DS. Times when I thought "don't think I've felt much for a while", I used to have a cold drink, lie on my side etc, like others have suggested, and that would reassure me.

Only time I contacted midwife to say I'd not felt any movements for a day or so, I was almost 40wks, and I went in to get checked out - and came home a day later with my baby :) he was so far down, ready to be born, that I couldn't really feel him anymore!

Like others have said - you know your body and your baby. if it feels "wrong" call the midwife. but don't worry about it not fitting a certain pattern or not. Follow your instincts.
