Q about pjs for hosp bag

mummytobejuly2014 · 21/05/2014 21:33

trying to gather up items for the hosp bags. was planning on a strappy/button front nightie for the labour to allow for skin to skin then for after i think pj bottoms or 3/4lengths & poss strappy/button up top for BF.
my Q is, what sort of size do I buy for after birth? pre baby I was a size 8, bust has not increased in size much since just giant baby bump, therefore I dont want the top to be too big/drown me, should I assume I'll be the same size as I am now leading upto birth?
sorry if thats a daft Q. I know the belly isn't going to be instant flat after birth hence the Q

I was a size larger straight after birth than I was before (and am usually an 8 like you). I wore soft, stretchy size 10 tracksuit bottoms and trousers for the initial week or two.

And buy cheap as you will get messy and want to chuck them in the bin

You'll deflate a little, but you might also swell up (I realise this makes little sense - but trust me). I didn't swell up at all during pregnancy, and then days after birth my feet swelled up, and I looked like a sack of spuds that had been pushed down a liftshaft.

I wore maternity pjs/leggings and a maternity/nursing vest top about the hospital. Nursing vests are fairly generous anyway, so the smallest size was fine for me.

i would buy a size or two up from 'normal' a little extra fabric when you are trying to breastfeed or space is not a bad thing!

i would make sure you have a cooler option for labour, i found that i was very hot, perhaps ward just was, a strappy nightie was perfect. as for afterwards i find on cool nights some sleeves are nice for night feeds so i use button down pyjamas or nightdress and just undo first few buttons.

Your maternity clothes will fit for a few more weeks (sorry). But if buying new, I'd go up at least a size, if not 2.

Would wearing a nightie in hospital be an option for you? They are, in their very nature, more flexible size-wise as no waist. I got a couple of button-front ones from Primark for this purpose(like massive t-shirts with a button front) , and I still like them now to be honest.

I agree, 1 size up sounds about right. Also, vests are a good idea in hospital, they're generally very hot places! I've been sleeping in nursing vests since DD was born in January and I love them.

dont really want to wear a nightie after, they tangle every shape when I sleep & would prefer bottoms like 3/4 or full length. going for lightweight fabrics, just haven't seen anything suitable yet. we don't have any peacocks or matalans to go & look. where did you's buy your nursing vests? im very small up top so not sure where to look also
