Umbilical Artery - High PI, anyone had similar?

Was scanned today due to concerns over lack of growth over the last 2 weeks. im 38+4.

Growth measuring ok although at lower end of percentile. heartbeat etc all fine. my blood pressure normal.

The scan has come back with Umbilical Artery PI of 1.25 which Dr said was normal but high end of. it also says End Diastolic flow - positive.

From what I can gather this can be linked to pre eclampsia and still birth. I have been told to look out for reduced movement but am now really worried.

Anyone have anything similar?

Hi,

Yes, I have high pressure and notching in both uterine arteries. It was picked up at my 20 week scan and I am having a rescan at 28 weeks to see if it has resolved itself. I read up quite a bit and the main risks seem to be pre-eclampsia and low growth for the baby. The fact that you are so late on and still measure ok is a good sign. I have seen plenty of stories online about very early deliveries (30-34 weeks) as a result.

Apparently the arteries should dilate before 20 weeks. In some people they dilate a bit late and in others they never dilate fully, causing the high pressure.

@puppymummy I have had the same results at 20 weeks and have been booked in for extra scans. I was told it was nothing to worry about in the mean time. were you advised to do anything extra?

I had this, which was discovered due to reporting reduced movements at 32 weeks. Baby’s growth slowed so she was delivered at 34 weeks! She’s now a happy, healthy (all be it small) 4 month old.

Our consultant said that the High pi on its own probably wouldn’t have meant he would deliver the baby early, however with it being combined with the lack of growth and reduced movements he wanted DD out asap!

This is good to know, thank you so much! Hopefully baby will continue to get strong and stay healthy.

I am slightly worried now as I didn’t realise I was pregnant for 6 weeks and drank a shed load of coffee during that time. I still have a cup of tea a day but might stop now!

What does high PI mean I had growth scan today and I have high pi is it something to worry about. Something about the blood flow from my placenta to umbilical cord is high
