Drinking lots of water is bad for you? WTF?

You need to drink more when pregnant.

Why did they tell you it was bad? FFS. As if we don't have enough to worry about/

aley1989 · 21/05/2014 10:59

No I mean refilling a water bottle is bad for you apparently

What kind of cap is it? I know the sports caps need to be washed properly as bacteria can live inside.

Also I heard stuff about plastic releasing stuff into water if left in sunlight... but I'm not dead yet

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 21/05/2014 11:02

Why is it any different to filling a glass or a sports bottle.
I always refill sports cap water bottles as for some reason I find I drink more than if I have to take the lid off, no idea why thou.
You will be fine, just ignore the crazy person.

LucyB1 · 21/05/2014 11:05

I do it all the time!

bakingmad83 · 21/05/2014 11:06

I'm sure you have done no harm at all, but if you wanted to be super cautious you could get a couple of sports bottles that are meant to be refilled.

There is some science behind not refilling plastic bottles that you buy water etc in from the supermarket, as the plastic is different. I have a friend who works as a chemist in plastic manufacture and she explained it, not that I can remember the ins and outs of it.

But like other posters have said, the important thing is to keep well hydrated. Getting dehydrated is going to do far more damage than the tiny chance something may leach out of the plastic.

Thanks all I have looked on the internet and there's lots of differnt opinions some say that they are saying it to just well more bottled waters others say it's very dangerous and are going on hippy like. This girl was just totally over loading me telling me it can kill me etc! It's a sports cap water Bottle which I've always swilled before using , as far as I know I have nothing wrong with my bloods but it has upset me as if I wasn't worried about pregnancy enough ! I'm going to again avoid google for now and maybe just get my midwifed opinion and I've read on other forums ladies say they did it lots and had healthy babies,

If the bottle heats up the plastic starts leaching carcinogens apparently - I'm sure you'd have to drink water from heated bottles a lot for it to have an effect on you though!

aley1989 · 21/05/2014 11:23

Yeah I read this. I've never drank water from a warm bottle I always kept it in a shaded place not for any reason in particular as I wasn't aware of this before now

Apparently some water bottles contain BPA. My PT told me that this can cause a high amount of Estrogen and that you should only use BPA free bottles. I used the same bottle for months and months before I found this out and there was no harm to me. However I stopped using it at Christmas after I got given a Brita bottle and I fell pregnant in April.

aley1989 · 21/05/2014 16:00

The bottles I had used where Apparently not made with Bta I found this after a lot of googling so hopefully I'll be ok

If anything it is doing your body really good especially your kidneys! Theres no harm innit....ignore those people they dont lnow much! X

CoolCat2014 · 21/05/2014 21:20

I think the risks of the plastic are probably thoroughly outweighed by the benefits of the water, but personally I've been trying to use a BPA sports bottle when possible, you can buy them in most supermarkets. Sometimes plastic bottles are just easier!
