Absolutely terrified... I'm scared of water. (How ever ridiculous it sounds) obviously I know I can't take anything but does the travel bands work or can I take travel sickness tablets. I will speak to pharmacy/midwife before I pilurchase anything, but just wanted advise please

You can't usually take travel sickness tablets when pregnant.

What ferry are you going on. If it's an iow ferry I can give you advice on that.

If you are driving on and are nervous about it the ferry company would probably let you walk on as a foot passenger before everyone got on. You could then pick a place to sit without being rushed. I do this regularly and just emailed then b4 hand.

Pharmacy may tell you to speak to GP about travel sickness tablets.
I used the sea bands to cope with morning sickness, and they worked for me. I have always suffered with travel sickness and haven't taken any medication for it since being pregnant - just used the bands.
Hope you find something that works! Try to relax and enjoy your trip.

Thank you ladies I have mw app on tues so will speak to her and see what she said, but didn't want to go and ask a daft question.

uggmum it's irishferries? I have no idea we have a caving for on the way there so I'm hoping I will just be exhausted and sleep as it doesn't leave till 2.30am but need to contact them and I have no idea what the earliest check in is either ( not very organised) lol x

Hopefully your midwife will be able to advise you. I was refused travel sickness tablets from a pharmacist but your gp may be able to prescribe something.

Travel bans can be effective.

Take plenty of things to keep you occupied. Perhaps a board game for you both to play and load up your iPod with your favourite tracks.

You could download some type of self help programme to listen to which may help.

Travel bands, plenty of water and find somewhere to sit on the lowest deck you can and as far to the back of the ship as you can be.

I've travelled with Irish ferries on many occasion and would highly recommend that you get a cabin for the night sailing. Their boats are very large and quite stable. They also have a cabin with a double bed xx Don't panic too much it's quite a nice feeling being rocked to sleep xx

daheedsgirl · 18/05/2014 12:01

Sorry just read you already have cabin. Check in is normally an hour before. Are you going from Pembroke or Holyhead?

icklekid · 18/05/2014 18:16

I was prescribed travel sickness medication to deal with morning sickness at first, on stronger medicine now. I would speak to gp but would have thought that as a one off would be fine as I took them daily for months! They did say seek advice if pregnant on...

CoolCat2014 · 18/05/2014 19:43

Try to stay as close to the centre of the ferry (width wise) as possible, as it usually rolls less there. Sea bands should help too :)

Snook99 · 18/05/2014 22:22

Travelling from Pembroke to rosslare have cabin on way there and seat on way back which is a 8.45pm ferry so that should be as bad (had no cabins left) so hopefully only need to worry on the way back, would it be worth me taking ear plugs to sleep or is it quiet :( x

It's pretty quiet but take anyway. If you go to the cafe on the floor below reception they have sofas big enough to lie on. I always take a pillow and a big blanket as I find it gets a bit cold :-)
I was on it a couple of weeks ago and the only thing I noticed was that I seemed to be very sensitive to was the smells, but I think that's a pregnancy thing as never been a problem before. If you get to Pembroke early you can go into the terminal building for a cup of tea and a wee :-)

Snook99 · 19/05/2014 10:13

I will remember a blanket and pillow! I'd there much to do I'm pembroke? as we are travelling 4 hours to get there then 2 hours once we get there so want to try and spread the driving out? We was going to stay on the Saturday but then we would have to leave b&b around 10am Sunday so seemed pretty pointless sorry for the million and one questions! X

Not an awful lot to do in Pembroke that I'm aware of. I've only ever gone to the ferry port. There's lots of nice places around it like Tenby. :-)
