So just got my results.. 1 in 27786 apparently that's not good odds for my age (24) on some threads women have had 1 in 100000 I'm scared now! What where your results?

Your odds are good, turn them upside down there is 27786 chances that your baby won't have DS and 1 chance it will. To me that is pretty good.

peppercold · 17/05/2014 10:37

Did it not say low risk too?

SpecialStuff · 17/05/2014 10:37

I was 26 when I had dd. My risk rating was 1 in 456.

bruffin · 17/05/2014 10:39

I had a risk of 1 in 60 when i was 34. DD was fine

DinoSnores · 17/05/2014 10:43

My maternity hospital's lab most low risk result is risk of less than 1 in 10,000. They stop calculating it after that.

Your risk of a baby with Down's syndrome is 0.00003598934%.

Your risk based on age alone (without the combined testing calculation) is 1 in 1250 (0.0008%).

SJC2014 · 17/05/2014 10:44

It said low risk but I had a look online and saw girls my age with triple those odds!! Just made me think WHY??

I'm a 1st timer and worried about everything xx

Oh dear, now I'm less pleased about my result of 1 in 7800... I also had a dream about a doctor coming up to me and saying "oh you're the one having a baby with Down's syndrome aren't you?"

SJC2014 · 17/05/2014 10:46

Lula you sound like a worry wart like me!

Lula2515 · 17/05/2014 10:47

Haha SJC I am!

SJC2014 · 17/05/2014 10:48

It's horrible isn't it!! I'm like a crazy person always looking for problems that may arise or things that could go wrong!!! Confused

Lula2515 · 17/05/2014 10:50

I had a panic the other day thinking... Even if I get through the pregnancy ok, then something could go wrong in the birth, but if I get through that, something scary could happen when dc is a little one.... I will literally never stop worrying again!

icklekid · 17/05/2014 10:50

Yours are really low risk, there far more likely things to worry about. Stop googling and worrying yourself OP Thanks

Theonlyoneiknow · 17/05/2014 10:53

I have never heard of odds that low before. Most places stop after a 1:10,000 risk. Those odds are extremely low OP. I know it's hard but please don't google anymore, honestly those odds are fantastic

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 17/05/2014 11:01

That makes a 99.9964% chance that your baby doesn't have Down's Syndrome. Women with odds of 1 in 100000 have 99.9999% chance that their baby doesn't have Down's Syndrome.

Are you really freaking out over the difference between 99.9964% and 99.9999%?

Of course those are good odds for your age. Without testing, your base odds at your age are 1 in 1,250. After your testing, your odds have improved to 1 in 27,786. So your tests have given you results that are really really REALLY good for your age.

BalloonSlayer · 17/05/2014 11:05

It means that you could give birth to 27,786 children and only one of them would have Down's Syndrome. And you think those are poor odds?

I had 1:88 after my Nuchal scan. It was 1:40 before that (no blood tests available here - just based on my age: I was 42.) Everyone told me how chuffed I must be to get my 1 in 88.

Please try and enjoy your pregnancy! Flowers

Christelle2207 · 17/05/2014 11:06

Mine was 1 in 9000 which at 35 I thought was fantastic. I wouldn't worry!!!

Casmama · 17/05/2014 11:08

I know pregnancy is a worrying time but in the nicest possible way you need to get a grip. Nine months is a long time and you need to try and maintain some perspective or you will drive yourself mad.

SJC2014 · 17/05/2014 13:39

I agree I need to get a grip!! I am classed as a high risk pregnancy though and i am consultant lead so have lots of check ups xx

With my first (at 25) my odds were 1 in 5! So yes you're very low risk. But I do understand how every little thing can worry you during pregnancy. Hope all these responses have helped you Smile

Loobyloo893 · 17/05/2014 13:49

And DS was fine Smile

Heatherbell1978 · 17/05/2014 17:29

I'm 36 and my odds are 1 in 2,500. I thought that was pretty low risk when I saw that it needs to be 1 in 250 to be high risk. You're worrying needlessly I'm afraid.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 17/05/2014 19:38

Please don't worry about these odds, they really are favourable. With DS2 mine were 1:71, we had an amniocentesis & he's fine (a very naughty 20 month old in fact).

lougle · 17/05/2014 20:05

Those odds are tiny.

Besides, DS is just one chromosomal condition that they happen to be able to predict using bloods/scans. There are many many more which can't be tested for so why get so hung up on a 1 in 27000 chance of DS???

These tests do more harm than good sometimes.

Fissawissa · 17/05/2014 20:08

My results aged 34 were 1:209 which worried me a bit. I stepped away from Dr Google!
